Plus consideration for showing 800K for 3 months....

We renewed our retirement visa for the 21st consecutive year today. In just after the lunch break and out by 2......1 year retirement extension x 2, reentry visa x 2, and 90 day update x 2. I presented my US Embassy pension letter......no bank books, no other documentation, no questions.
Smiles all around.
Four people working the visa desk, one official at the 90 day desk, and a bevy of Rajaphat girls doing the dirty work (copies, filing info into the ever present ledger books)

While we waited for the official to process the paperwork, we talked about the old days of Udonites going to Nongkai.....the wait, the broken copier, the drive, no queue system, and some immigration officials who made everyone on edge with their tone and demeanor.
AEK immigration was even worse.....with usually only one official and a line of expats waiting to be served.
We consider ourselves fortunate to have such an efficient and fair immigration office in town.

Aye got to agree , Mr sgt Major nasty had him at AEK and then Nongkhai ,but i have to say once i understood his way of doing things ,(eg his interpretation of the rules ) i never had a problem with him , BUT many did ,

Hi .I have been informed from another forum that the retirement 1year can be made obviously with the 800k in a thai bank OR it was said the equivalent in a Sterling or Dollar account with a letter from the bank stating conversion would be gr8ter than the 800k.Is this available in Udon? Anyone do it.or do they havr their own rules?.many thanks for any replies..

The only way you will get a definitive answer is to go into Udon immigration office and ask (don't forget to get the name of the officer giving the answer), anything else will be just an indication that 1 person has, or has not, been successful.

Off course it must be an instant access account or provide instant access possibly with loss of interest.

Its hard enough to get the letter stating 800k in the account let alone what an exchange rate is on a specific morning That must need at least 8 or 9 Bank employees to check/sign/countersign/type/check/countercheck/put in envelope/hand to customer etc etc

immi have told me once the account can not be foreign currency deposit (FCD), but everything can change ...
so indeed better ask at your local immi office...

If they are going to accept a foreign currency (probably not) account they will not accept a bank conversion they will do it them selves as the do with certified income in a foreign currency.

Cant see them keeping records of the exchange rates for 3 months so it can be checked like the 800k (3 months before/2 months before/1 month before and on day) What would happen if the rate fluctuated on the day 2 months before renewal and the Doller/Sterling equiv did not equal 800k TB? Would they use the highest or lowest rate for each given day?

I guess that you are over thinking. The complications would be a good reason for refusing anything but a Baht account.

However if accepted it would probably have to be significantly over the minimum and they would use the exchange rate the day you submit your application and would probably not accept any fluctuations in amount.
