According to locals spoken to the co-ordinates given were of a private house.

I used the map Bob Helm posted then looked on google maps for a online version.
Had no problem finding the Temple it was where Bob Helms map said it was.
Anyway Ron had a good send off attended by about 25 falang friends.

If you wont say it Timmy, I will. The directions from Bob Helm were not helpful.
1. He did not name the Wat. The photo of a plaque on the wall was useless. This is an English speaking forum. Not Thai.
2. Two different map co-ordinates. Click on the link for the second one and it pin points a private house no where near a Wat.
3. Mats post naming the Wat was more helpful but unfortunately posted to late for those of us who do not log on every 5 minutes.

The name of the Wat is on the map Bob posted.
It is highlighted in red Wat Thip Santiwan.

It's not highlighted in red if you click on the link above the map. The link above the map included co-ordinates to some where else. As no Wat name was mentioned it came down to guess work. Time for Mr Helm to explain.

Exactly what is to explain Galee, it is exactly as pal52 stated..
map 2.png
If you did not understand the map then the sensible time to say that was surely before the event, not after??

That is the output from the smart phone App HereIam2 when standing in the wat.
I provided as much data as I could, given the limited time available to me from being told when the service would be held to the actual service.

Frankly, after going to quite a bit of effort to provide as much information as possible I am disappointed that you seem to be blaming me for your inability to find the site.
A simple question before the event from you would have bought clarification..

Then you should have checked that link provided the correct information before including it. That link pointed to a location nearly 1 klm away.

It wasn't only me having problems. I know of three other people who were driving around unable to locate the Wat. Simply taking the time to write the Wats name would have helped.

The Wat name is only given in Thai- I provided a photograph of that.
I then took the trouble to open up Google Maps, search for Wat's in the general area & then manually highlight the Wat on the map & post a copy. The name there is in English.

I will not bother again, next time I will leave it to you Galee.. :(

Just got back from a week down south with no internet access, and can only say I'm in shock after reading this news.

RIP Ronnie

A couple of shots that I'm sure Tony will recognise of Ron at one of his Panarin Park birthday partys a few years back.

Will never ever forget that cheeky grin

3 of us turned up 30mins late due to this ...... I also know for 3+ people who also gave up and went home!

The only thing that got us there (late) was the photo of the Wat's name in Thai. We asked a private International Thai school to translate it for us in the city and they then gave us directions!

Well said Bob you definitely did your best and obviously not appreciated, Some of these people are just too lazy/incompetent to get out of their own way!

Normally, upon the death of an ex-pat, the family, or somebody with their consent, provides full details of the date, venue and time of the Ceremony. In the absence of that happening, Bob kindly made some enquiries and, IN GOOD FAITH, posted such meagre information as he was able to obtain. I was also able to add what I hoped was some helpful supplemental information, provided IN GOOD FAITH, by Bobbie, and which he had obtained by further researching Bob Helm's information on Facebook.
The fact is, by using the information provided by Bob Helm, and using some personal initiative and effort, 16 members were successful in finding the Wat and attending the Ceremony. It seems highly likely that, without Bob Helm's contribution, there would have been virtually no ex-pats at the Ceremony; including panick and friends, had they not had the 'photo provided by Bob!
As the ONLY person who made any attempt on behalf of the members to obtain and publicize here the details of the Ceremony, ( certainly there is no evidence to suggest his critics made any such attempt [-X ), Bob Helm is entitled to the gratitude of members; certainly he is not deserving of the unpleasant ill considered vilification he has received.

ON TOPIC and on a happier note, the majority of the ex-pats attending, adjourned to The Kinnaree for a couple of hours, to enjoy lunch and swap stories of their experiences with Ron. An event which Ron would have enjoyed, and of which he would have approved.
Perhaps in respectful memory of Ron, this thread could now be closed, whilst it is on topic.
R.I.P. RON.
