Re: Udon Flooding

For the first time in 10 years had water coming under the door into my office. Fortunately 5 minutes later the rain abated and emergency furniture moves were cancelled. Water in the garden was about 20 cm deep. Down on the farm, all ponds overtopped their banks and met some of my fish in the field n...

Re: coastal towns will have to be abandoned

Indonesia is planning a new capital, as Jakarta is sinking rapidly. OK, sea level rise is only a small part of the problem, but in the long term it makes Jakarta very much a lease on borrowed time.

Re: New to Udon, have non o-a, want to get Thai savings account

Try KASIKORN Bank at Central Plaza. You will need an Address and or Rental Agreement in place, plus copy of your Passport with Non IMM O-A visa. On another note, as you are new to Udon Than, I presume you have done your TM 30 at the Udon Thani Immigration office, since arriving. Pipoz4444 Do not ne...

Re: What about the Amazon

There are many links, with wildly different claims. The problem is where they get there data from. One link says fires at the 15 year average. But doesn't say that burning has been falling steadily this century. One report says burning 80% up on last year. Most of the major fires are actually along ...

Don't forget "Mother Nature" its only `12,800 years since the world was bombarded by asteroids that bought an end to the ice age, that was not a "one off" add the sun & solar induced brownouts, the more people rely on their gadgets, the more they will be shocked WHEN something happens, it will be t...

Re: Aussie knife nutjob

An Aussie went on the rampage this morning our time stabbing 3 woman one fatally. He was apprehended by 3 workers and held by police the heroes as the Aussies have pointed out are all from Manchester uk. I'd say they probably don't see themselves as Hero's there more likely to say we just did it to...

Re: makro

Was in Makro this morning, at checkout at 8.30 a.m. Sometimes this early the less than 10 items lanes are not manned. still only took 3 minutes to get to front of queue. Not sure how many checkouts were manned, about 3 or 4, I think. Makro is not really intended for the quick exit - it is for people...

I agree would be nice to have a gardening section. My experience with fruit trees .... Jackfruit - cannot even remember what year they were planted. 2012 or 2013. Have 2 trees, planted when about one to 2 years old. Only ever had one fruit. The biggest tree has got a fungal infection under the bark ...

Re: hottest June on record as planet warms up

Well, we know where Joudon comes from. Called De Nile ..... Seriously, yes the climate has changed in the past. But we are interested in what is happening in modern times. Yes, there have been warm periods in the last 2000 years, but it has been established that these were mainly regional events, no...

Re: TM 30 Form

Udon's attitude to the TM30 is very practical, so not an issue. I didn't realise i had ever done one, but yes, at the extension last year they did staple an extra document to my passport and told me not to remove it, It is so well stapled on you cannot open or read it either! There are stories of pe...

Having previously driven in Libya, couldn't understand farang paranoia at Thai driving when i got here! The only extra was the Thai habit of driving the wrong way at the side of the road. The only thing i have hit in 9 years was one concrete post and a wing mirror. BUT I have been hit 3 times - all ...

Still have tap water for now, and sufficient water in our own and the village ponds. But come cold season their could be a problem, hopefully not before.

Re: Drought

Here just North of Udon June was wet enough, but July is definitely on the dry side. It has rained a bit today, but only a millimetre or two. And that is the first rain for 2 weeks. Unless it is totally dry the next 2 months, there will be a rice harvest, but then no water for the the cool season, w...

The finger print recognition is only all 10 digits the first time you use it - unfortunately currently that is most people. When i came back 2 weeks ago just scanned 4 fingers and only took about 10 seconds. It was busy, but not that busy at immigration, Took about 25-30 minutes. For some reason my ...

So, what's new? Antarctic sea ice was the lowest on record in June. Arctic sea ice was the 2nd lowest for June. June was the warmest June on record (global average). 2019 so far looks like the 2nd or 3rd warmest year on record - and no El Nino so far to make it eve hotter. Nothing to see here, just ...

Re: prince charles says we have just 18months left to save us

A typical misleading headline. What he actually said was Speaking as the future head of the Commonwealth, a position which was confirmed during a convention in London last year, he emphasised that the next 18 months would see "critical meetings that will collectively determine the global agenda for ...

Re: alarm over tyre dust pollution etc

"Brake, tyre and road wear is a recognised challenge as emissions from these sources are not easy to measure."
And that is an understatement. You can legislate what goes IN to Brake pads, tyres and road surfaces, but have no control on the rate of wear.

Probably the most extensive list there is:

Be aware that many fishing parks are only open periodically, sometimes closed for restocking/growing fish
