Re: Water line and meter questions (town water)

O.K., so I built a tank stand to get the tank up off the broken cement pad it was on, and to give us enough height to have at least some gravity flow in case of power outage. The stand also provides at least a little protection from the weather I bored another hole in the top of the tank to allow fo...

Re: So, when did they re-invent the spark-plug?

Been a while since I owned an auto repair garage (2006) but at that time we had standard steel core spark plugs, Copper core spark plugs and Platinum Core spark plugs available. I believe the lifetime of plugs on nearly all new vehicles (stateside anyway) is 100,000 miles. But that seems to be chang...

Foreigners Driving Poorly

While I don't care for poor driving habits by others and often think negatively of them no matter what their nationality is, for some reason the bad driving habits and impolite attitudes of other foreigners here in Thailand strikes a particularly sour note with me. Yesterday I was walking near Centr...

Re: John's budget build

I agree with the others...the locals like to skimp on rebar or mesh in driveways, but the ground here becomes so fluid in the rainy season that it can cause some real problems with the concrete if it's not reinforced really well. Looks like you are doing a great job of researching all this stuff and...

Re: house furniture and electrical - many items

I agree, I am extremely reluctant to make an offer on anything advertised without a price, (I don't mean the price paid new) and don't care to ask for pictures unless it's something like a car, motorbike or house. I do hope you sell the items though.

O.K., so I fixed my problem by building my own computer desk, just couldn't find what I wanted. But thanks again for all the helpful suggestions. UDMap members are the greatest!

Re: RECESSION?

I like to keep up on what's going on, it's especially useful as far as helping the relatives with any plans they are making. (believe it or not they do ask me what I think from time to time) One of the wife's relatives runs a village weaving guild, most of their orders were from large hotels for tab...

Sorry for the delay in answering...the wife and I took a group on a hike up Phu Kradueng...arrrgggghhhh! Thanks so much for all of your replies, you guys are great! We have friends from back home coming to visit in a couple of weeks and they will help me revamp the system. I'll let you know what we ...

Water line and meter questions (town water)

We live in the NongKhai suburbs and have been on our own well water for the past twelve years. In that time it has eaten countless faucets and fittings and plugged countless shower heads with calcium. The town water supply has been piped into our community but is 120 meters from our property. I have...

Re: Do You Continue to Greet Thai People? Sawasdee Khrop is BS?

Do you really only say "hello" to someone only to hear them say "hello" back? Is that your reason? While it's always nice to hear a polite reply, or see a smile, I know I have done my best and tried to brighten their day. I am not going to worry about it if someone doesn't answer with another hello ...

too many variables to say for sure, they made those things for a lot of years. like he said, bahtsold should give you a good idea. Craigslist Thailand used to be good, but I quit looking there a few years back because it was overrun with scammers, not sure now.

What do you think your chances are for survival if a local finds out you are the one who reported them?
Quite reasonable i suspect, however, You would probably need to budget over B36000 a month for your additional medical expenses =;
Or a bodyguard

Re: Where can I buy a decent motorcycle helmet

I have been using a "Real" brand helmet with the flip down sun visor and also the clear visor for about three or four years now, it is a comfortable helmet and seems substantial, the padding and interior has worn well and the noise level is quiet, all unusual for a Thai helmet. Bought it for about 2...

Udon Traffic

The wife and I came into Udon from NongKhai last night, which was a Sunday, at about 5pm. We shopped around a bit on the ring road and then tried to head across town to Central. We got stuck in some of the worst traffic I have ever seen. I lost count of how many times the traffic lights cycled befor...

Thanks for this thread, I too am sick of gecko poop and pee all over the house. I tried bumping them off by chasing them around and swatting them, but they are ...

Re: Jobs for young Thai people

Not just a Thai problem, kids back home are finding it hard to find jobs out of high school or university. Many college grads are going to work in fields they could have gone into out of high school. Some of the most successful training programs in our area of the U.S. are vocational/technical schoo...
