Re: I'm Embarrassed to be anEnglishman

I too have been embarrassed to be a British subject, and have been feeling this way since 23rd June 2016. That was when there was a vote on Britain's remaining a member of the European Union. And, for god knows what reason, 52% of those who voted decided to negate our political, cultural, ethnic, li...

Re: john cleese says london is no longer english

London has been a cosmopolitan city since, and quite possibly before, the settlement of the Huguenots. I did not realise how the rest of the UK viewed Londoners until I went to work in the far north of England. I must say that I am proud to be a Londoner, but not too proud to be an Englishman. Long ...

Re: soldiers using Corbyn photo for target practice.. video

I am looking forward to Jeremy Corbyn becoming Prime Minister. He will not be a tyrant, and should improve the lot of the majority of the population. Those who expect a rabid red in Downing Street will be disappointed.

Re: Mass shooting in New Zealand mosques

My first reaction is my heartfelt sympathy to all the victims. I agree that social media has a certain amount to answer for in the case of many extremist attacks, and Udon Map is a form of social media. I am not advocating censorship, on some threads we can expect a no-holds-barred debate, but on th...

Bicycle overhaul in Udon ThanI

Can anyone tell me where i may have my bicycle overhauled (particularly all ball bearings and bushes) in Udon Thani.

I am able to speak sufficient Thai to advise the mechanic on what needs to be done.

Thank you very much in anticipation.

E U Flag

I wish to display my sentiments by flying the EU flag from my property. Does anyone know where one might buy this flag in Udon Thani?

The Brexiteers need not worry unduly - my house is way out in the sticks, too far from civilisation to affect their own property, whether by increase or devaluation.

Re: Any interest in a Quiz night

So I understand that there IS a regular quiz night in Udon Thani. I have also read that it is certainly widely advertised. I do not live in Udon town, although I would be prepared to visit for the quiz, so could someone please let me know when, where, and how often it is held. I have always maintain...

Why I shall not wear a poppy

My father fought in the First World War. He was silent on the horrors that he must have experienced. And when a colleague suggested that they go to a performance of, “Oh! What a Lovely War”, he declared that he had already been there, it was not lovely, and did not wish to be reminded. In the first ...

Re: Frozen Pensions for UK Pensioners

Earlier this year. Sir Richard Branson made his opinion known on the injustice of 'frozen pensions'. But Jeremy Corbyn has been on the 'frozen pensioner' side for much longer than that. He was on the Social Security Committee which debated this issue back in 1997. He was a founder member of the All ...

In no preferential order:

1. Good inexpensive wine;

2. Live music (especially opera and jazz);

3. Dedicated cycle paths.

Re: Freed on appeal Tommy Robinson

I do not wish to get into a discussion on whether or not there are angels in this world, with or without wings. 'AlexO' wrote that, "TR (Tommy Robinson) is no angel, but then neither is 90% of the male population of this world." I misinterpreted this statement, and 'Alex O' now explains that he, ".....

Re: Freed on appeal Tommy Robinson

I am not able to comment on the rights or the wrongs of the contempt of court accusation. I am not a judge, and, like the late E.L. Wisty, I don't have the Latin. But I was interested to read that Tommy Robinson has been: convicted for violent assault on his partner; involved in a fist fight after a...

I would certainly be interested, and agree that it might be better to start with a monthly quiz and then make it twice a month if there is sufficient demand.

Re: le tour de france descends into mayhem

In response to ‘yartims’, I am not aware of any Australian rider being forced to abandon this year’s Tour de France following a collision with a spectator. On the climb up the Alpe d’ Huez it was Vincenzo Nibali (an Italian) who was brought off his bike when a spectator’s camera strap caught his han...

Re: Your Mum was The Best at cooking ???

My mother was not stupid, she was aware of what she could and could not do well.

Nowadays food in the UK has moved up several levels - thanks to the immigrant influence. I am waiting for a similar improvement here in Thailand.
