Re: Why do you stay in Thailand?

I've been giving this some thought and reading through the posts many valid points have been made regarding the reasons for continuing to stay in the Kingdom. I've been here full time for 13 years now and I've come to the conclusion that the primary factor keeping me here is air conditioning. Withou...

Re: Losing Jungle Status

I enjoy reading posts like this. Twenty years ago most of us were somewhere else doing something else. We arrived here for different reasons and under different circumstances and our reference point is tied that event. We've all seen the changes that have occurred during our personal presence, but f...

If you're looking for yeast for occasional home baking (small amount) Perfect brand is found in most all grocery outlets. I've been using it here for a decade. It's with the other baking supplies like flour, baking soda, baking powder etc.

Re: Overpass/tunnel Udon Ringroad Nongkai Hwy

I've not traveled through the tunnel yet but may make a run up that way this week. I reckon there are plenty of warning signs to prevent over-height loads from entering. Daily, I see pickup trucks with produce stacked to the max. Does anyone know what the clearance height is?

Yes, I've noticed in the village that is just the old ladies who still chew the betel nut wad. Over the years there are less and less of them. The younger generation have other options it seems.

หมาก (maak) = betel nut chew

หมากฝรั่ง (maak farang) = chewing gum

But English seems to be a common denominator for the people we know who are successful. I think that speaking, reading and writing English is certainly a distinct advantage. Our niece is a third year student at Mae Fah Luang University in Chiang Rai. Her basic English skills were developed while in...

Yeah, this loss will drop Missouri to 5 and 3. They won't make it back into the top 25 this season.

Re: US Sports News

Jose Altuve, with a walk-off homer against the NY Yankees put Houston in the World Series. A heck of a game, going into the final inning tied up at 4 apiece. The 1.68 m. (5' 6'') tall Altuve launched a massive drive into the stands.

This should be a great series with the Astros and Nationals.

……... Tigers broke into the top 25 ranked teams this week (#22). Should handle Vanderbilt okay next game......
Well, so much for that prediction. Commodores upset the Tigers 21 to 14. This collegiate football season has produced quite a few unexpected results.

Re: US Sports News

I believe the Washington Senators lost the 1933 World Series to the NY Giants so yes, it's been a long, long time. This is the Nationals first World Series in franchise history. A Nats vs Astros would be a good matchup. I still have trouble remembering that the Astros are now an American League team...

The Nats dominated the Cards the entire series and definitely earned their spot in the MLB World series. Nice to see a Washington DC club make it to the big show.

It was over almost before it started. Cardinals scored 10 runs in the first inning and went on to defeat the Braves 13 to 1.
They now move on to the National League Championship Series, facing the winner of today's Nationals vs Dodgers game.

I was living and working in St. Louis when Yadi was called up in 2004. He has improved steadily the past 16 years. Went to a lot of games at the old Busch Stadium and watching his defensive and offensive skills was a treat. Several times I've seen him make at "pick-off" at first base throwing from a...
