Re: School Sex Abuse Cases Spark Alarm

I have been a volunteer for many years in a number of rural and city schools here in UT helping Thai teachers who are trying to teach English to classes of 40+ students K1 - K6 & M1 - M3. I can tell you from personal experience that its' a near impossible task trying to control that many young stude...

Re: Sendiing Mail

Tam I've had pretty good luck with DHL bringing in some bicycle accessories etc without going through customs. i think the rule of thumb is that anything valued at over $25 US goes through Thai Customs and may or may not get taxed. As for the imbecile in the White House I couldn't agree with you mor...

Re: Sendiing Mail

As far as I know the only way to get anything back to the states via air is to use UPS (office in Nong Samrong) or the Thai P.O. which will connect with DHL or you can visit one of the 3 DHL offices here in town. I don't believe FEDEX serves this area.

Re: Nimit Aircon

I believe close to the "Clock Circle". Mr. Thong does speak some English but it might be best to have a native Thai speaker phone him. Don't be afraid to use my name as he knows me quite well from our Saturday afternoon conversation English classes which are offered free at Udon Education Foundation...

Re: Nimit Aircon

I've been using Nimit Aircon for about 15 years now and always found them to be very capable. However, things have gone downhill considerably since the passing of Mr. Saman's wife who was the real business mind of the operation. I believe all their senior techs have left. I have since switched to an...

Re: So they are banning plastic bags - Keiser Report

Strange how you don't hear anyone complain about Makro not giving out plastic bags. I keep my reusable heavy duty plastic bag (from the Royal project shop in the mall) in my car. I wheel everything out in the shopping cart and load it all in the trunk then transfer it all to the large shopping bag t...

Re: how to call back to the UK cheap from Thailand

My wife and I have used a CAT phonenet card for about 15 years now to call back to the states and elsewhere. It will work from both a land line as well as your mobile phone and it will not eat up your mobile phone time. I'm a touring cyclist (bicycle) for about 12 years and my wife has used our phon...

Re: Immunity and herd immunity

Interesting to note that there's still no vaccine for MERS or SARS. I believe the same may hold true for Covid 19. It seems like wearing a mask in public, washing your hands frequently and social distancing will become the "new norm".

Re: School director dies in Udon accident.

Very sad as far as I'm concerned. No telling what the cause of the accident was at this point in time. The man could have had a stroke or a seizure or a heart attack while driving.

RL this virus is nothing at all like the flu. There are now more than 20,000 dead in the Us as a result of this virus. i would hardly characterize it as a severe flu.

Re: Spare a thought for Thai Immigration staff

I don't believe it would be a problem for anyone with just a little common sense to be able to book an appointment with immigration. They could easily do it with their "smart" phone or go to a internet shop. I don't have any stats but I believe the majority of the people going to immigration here in...

Re: Spare a thought for Thai Immigration staff

I believe Udon Immigration could save themselves and the rest of us a lot of headaches by simply instituting an online appointment system like what the Thai Embassy in Vientiane is using. It's very simple to use and works quite well. Immigration could limit the number of people coming to their offic...

Re: Border and bar closings

I heard a story on Thai PBS TV tonight that an unidentified Udon Thani restaurant was closed down by the police for violating the govts orders regarding restaurants which are only supposed to allow take away service. Apparently the owner was seating customers and serving them meals in place. The own...
