Re: Honda Car dealership

I had service on my Honda Accord at the dealership on the highway to KK. They were incapable of fixing an issue on the first visit; always had to return. Once because they left the oil fill cap off. I had an a/c issue they wanted 20,000 baht to attempt to fix with no guarantee they could resolve it....

Is it safe to breathe?

The air pollution for the past several days has been quite visible. My eyes itch and blue skies are gone. My smart phone app called AirVisual has rated the air in Udon as "unhealthy" or "unhealthy for sensitive groups" for more than a week. If air quality is of interest to you I recommend using this...

If you have money a strong baht makes you richer. If you're poor, you're still poor. If you're in the middle, foreign things become less expensive and local things continue to inflate.

I sit corrected. Violence has changed some injustices and brought benefit to the oppressed. The French revolution did change the country. The Russian revolution merely installed a new source of oppression and injustice.

Re: US Oppressed the Third World for so Long that It ...

I split my time between the US and Thailand. I first came to Thailand in 2002. Since that time Thailand has been steadily improving its infrastructure, services, and general wealth of its citizens. In the US, the opposite is true. Infrastructure is deteriorating, services are more expensive for less...

Re: Car scratches

There is a body shop at the linked location. I had a bumper repainted there for 1,000 THB. They removed the bumper, painted it, and reinstalled it the next day. It looked as good as the original. About one hundred meters past the Lotus Express on the way out of town. Same side of the street. https:/...

Re: Loan shops?

Being knee capped or disappeared doesn't get the loan paid off. More likely it's an exchange for land at a very favorable rate that gets the loan paid. Gold shops are another loan business. They take in gold from those fortunate to have some and give cash in return. The legal interest rate is 2% per...

Re: Police state squeeze for Thailand’s expatriates

I think I'll continue to get a one year multiple entry family visit visa when I return to the US each year. It also gives me incentive to renew my alcohol supply at the duty free in Laos as I do my 90 day visa runs. Always try to take several Thai people so each can return with one liter.

Re: thai growth weakest since .......

As Thailand continues to develop and improve its infrastructure so will Thai wages increase and the inevitable inflation that goes hand in hand with capitalism. Consequently, those on fixed incomes will find their buying power deteriorating over time. Weak growth expands the time frame for increasin...

In typical zazen style sitting meditation the stick is not to punish, but rather to awaken. If a practitioner starts to nod off a light tap on the shoulder awakens the practitioner who should respond with, "Thank you, teacher."

Re: US Passport Renewal

I renewed my passport by mail with the US Consulate in Bangkok last July and it went off smoothly. Udon immigration also tried ripping me off for 500 THB for the free transfer of my visa information to the new passport. About a month later I went to Laos, and on my return the Thai immigration office...
