Re: Quintessentially Isaan (Photos)

Barney, is that Tungsrimeuang market open every morning? It looks like a ตลาดนัด/market fair.....similar to what we see at Kilo 18 every Sunday.

Re: Quintessentially Isaan (Photos)

Thanks for keeping the thread alive, Barney! The photos remind me of when we were in Panama and the temperatures plunged to a frigid 69F.

Re: New Thai currency

I'm 10,000km away so just reading what's in the papers. Yes, the notes are identified as 'commemorative' notes, but another article said they're being dispensed at ATM machines......so that'd be different than other commemorative notes that were available in only limited numbers from the tellers at ...

Re: New Thai currency

As I read it, the new issue is a commemorative issue (ระลึก). Like other commemorative issues, the size is usually different from the standard currency. Over the years, I've never seen a commemorative issue traded as 'cash' in the typical market.

Re: Lao Railway Progress

Nice videos! From what I've read, most/all the construction in Laos is being done by Chinese labor/equipment. I'm guessing the result will be a longtime Chinese presence in Laos. It seems the planned crossing is from Tha-Nha-Laeng into Nongkai, but can't find anywhere that shows the exact location. ...

Re: Wall Fence around property

There are loads of Thai government details on the web concerning chanotes and land rights. Using the attached photo of a piece of land that we owned, I'd say the four corner markings on the rectangle indicate the boundaries of the land and thus allow you to build a fence along that line. That said, ...

Re: Water outage, possibly localized.

The link doesn't help alleviate the pain of a water outage, but at least it gives some indication of where the problem is and how long it 'might' last. A 630mm water pipe is a big pipe!!

Re: AIS 1 2 call SIM card expiry date

Reasons to keep an old working mobile phone: We've been marooned in the US for nearly 9 months. We kept our AIS sim cards installed on 2 older phones while we're using newer phones with US sim cards. When I do online transactions with our Thai bank accounts, I get OTPs and verification of log on ove...

Re: Lao Railway Progress

When my wife and I long for a rerun of Little House on the Prairie, we'll tune in to Lao videos about life there today. My wife spent several months there as a young teenager, caring for the child of an expat couple in Vientiane. When I watch the village videos along with the videos about the progre...
