More bad news for UK pensioners

I have been drawing a State Pension for the past 6 years and have received the full tax allowance to date. I am aware that the tax free allowance of 150 gbp, that I have now, is frozen until 2016 Apologies...that should be 10,500 gbp, not 150 gbp No, but it will remain frozen until personal allowan...

What i was trying to say is when according to the UK-law (and not for example muslim law in some muslim countries) you are legally married the widow can claim the widow pension. It's already been said....It all depends on the policy and the rules that govern that pension provider. Each company will...

Not sure of exact difference for a Civil service Pension, because last read about it years ago, but i think if your wife is more than 10 years younger than you they will make an actuarial reduction. But the old scheme had no rules about age.... but probably very few 60 year old Civil servants used t...

I worked for the CC for almost 35 yrs. I retired in 2008 age 55. I was divorced at the time. I married my current wife (Thai) in 2010. I made enquiries as I told you. (I wont use the exact figures) but currently should I die today she would receive 3 months of my current pension then 50% there afte...

The important thing that the pension administrator does not mention, that Tafia hints at, is how much the widows pension would be. If married before the pension was taken then it normally is 50% of the employees pension. However most schemes usually have 'age related' clause even then. So if, for e...

Advice to all single or devorced civil servants retieree's on their death bead would be: Legally marry a (young) woman :D :D Now there may be a rule about that, as it doesn't affect me I've never looked into it but anyone who it may affect should check first. By the way the widows pension increases...

I believe to qualify and keep the increase you would need to visit and stay for 6 months.

If you opt to have your pension paid directly into a Thai Bank it will be sent in Baht and not sterling so as to what rate you get isn't clear.

Tourist Visas on arrival???????????

Visa exempts are just as papaguido describes. There is no free tourist visas.
If traveling by air be aware that without a Visa and on onward or return ticket within the 30 days the airline may refuse you travel.

Warning: Thai Traffic Control

If you are staying any length of time here it pays to get a Thai Licence.
As Douglas pointed out I'd be far more aware of the implications from the insurance, as we all know to our cost how much they wriggle if they have to pay out and not having a Thai licence may give them that excuse.

Score 2.jpg I didn't see the game but a close, close affair that England just about managed to pinch. Back to the bad old habit of giving away far too many penalties though. Disappointing for France who have to face Wales in Cardiff next weekend. England are at home to Ireland in a game that also p...

Sorry Tafia, UK-Civil Service pension-scheme-system or not: its hard to beleive that, if someone is single at retiremement age, the periodically amount of the actuarial annuity which is then based on a single life can later be changed into 2 lifes, also when for example you never contribute in the ...

harmonyudon I can understand the confusion as most schemes are like that. The UK State Pension (as truebrit says) stopped the widows pension some time ago and replaced it with the bereavement benefit which TB outlines in his post and is available to view on the Goverment website Directgov.com Privat...

The helmets may be considered inadequate and there are better quality ones available; but as inadequate as they may be, it may still save your skull from cracking.

Actually, I had the exact same issue when I was unsure of which visa to apply for. I had the form, with everything filled out, and took it to a family doctor in the US. He refused to sign it, citing malpractice reasons, and said I should go to a clinic. I went to the clinic, they refused to even se...
