Re: UK Economy

We're chewing over current affairs. Some find that more difficult than others. I think the key is to try to stick to the issues and to accept others will have different opinions. I think an administrative and logistic nightmare awaits the UK on 1 November. Not enough preparation seems to have been d...

Re: British PM to face No confidence vote tonight

"Boris Johnson was left humiliated and his claims of progress in the Brexit negotiations in tatters after a chaotic visit to Luxembourg ended in the prime minister being mocked by a fellow European leader for cancelling a press appearance to avoid protesters." https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20...

Re: UK Economy

I was thinking of both the legitimacy and effectiveness of the Security Council AlexO. I find "There will be no difficulties after 31 October" simply astonishing. The world doesn't even know if there's going to be another extension. And if Brexit occurs, then the British government is going to be wo...

Re: U.S. Politics

Don't under-estimate the importance of the fat little guy. Trump probably needs to pull a rabbit out of the hat on North Korea by late next year. He isn't going to get it from the Taliban, Iran or the Chinese. Trump will want to brag about some foreign policy success that evaded Obama. Something tha...

Re: British PM to face No confidence vote tonight

I don't see anything controversial in my earlier post. I read David Cameron is scathing of Johnson. Probably no big surprise. I'm hoping Johnson has the best 6 weeks of his political life over the next 6 weeks.

Re: It was never about Europe. Brexit is Britain’s reckoning with itself

It's a tragedy that the British Labour Party is in such a mess when the UK is facing a political crisis. Judging from the posts above, it seems some think the British criminal justice system has also tragically failed in not prosecuting and convicting Corby. Institutional failure seems to be occurri...

Re: UK Economy

You're welcome to comment on New Zealand. Even in that childish manner. 8) I've heard out here that there are now difficulties dealing with British importers where transactions are affected by what happens on 31 October. Transactions are being delayed. I think it was Johnson himself who reportedly s...

Re: British PM to face No confidence vote tonight

It's important that other countries takes some lessons from the balls ups in Blighty. This kind of mess should be avoidable. Hopefully no other EU country that wants out does its exit as poorly as the UK. It's been shockingly inept.

Re: UK Economy

As a nuclear power, a permanent member of the UN Security Council and source of significant global political and economic instability, the UK is fair game. The UK also has a lot of soft power. One "cost" of that is foreigners after consuming the products of that soft power commenting on the UK. I ex...

Still chaos in Blighty. Who the hell knows what's going to happen from here up until 31 October?

Johnson's now looking pretty limp.

Re: U.S. Politics

I read this in the New York Times (Kristof): "On Thursday, 10 Democratic presidential candidates will debate. It would be a natural opportunity to provoke a national conversation on the subject. But a question about child poverty hasn’t been asked at a presidential debate in 20 years, not since a Re...

Re: Jeffrey Epstein and Prince Andrew

"Buckingham Palace has issued strong denials over allegations made by Virginia Roberts Giuffre that she was forced to have sex with Prince Andrew when she was 17 years old. She claims she had sex with Andrew ‘three times, including one orgy’ in London, at Epstein’s home, and at an ‘orgy’ on his priv...

Re: It was never about Europe. Brexit is Britain’s reckoning with itself

Why should Corbyn be in prison? And why shot for treason? That's way over the top. I read Johnson might be risking imprisonment if he doesn't seek another Brexit extension. Interesting times.

Thai Air is too expensive for me. I can find 10,000 baht less expensive flights on other airlines from NZ. I don't mind transferring planes and the opportunity to stretch my legs.

Re: Worldwide Violent Crime Report

It's a shame the Americans can't put on their "Good Guys" hat and sort something out for Yemen. There might be a Nobel Prize up for grabs. I suppose we have to wait for Trump to be voted out (assuming he'd let the winner take office) or the 25th to kick in.
