Re: Website editor facing 50 years in jail

Like I said, if you do not go to Thailand you would probably be o.k. The same as Thaksin, they can charge him if they want but can't touch him outside of Thailand. Although if I was Khun Thaksin I would worry about stray bits of lead.

Re: Website editor facing 50 years in jail

Bandung I agree with you but I think it could be a problem if one was to go to Thailand, as well I have read about Thai officials going to the U.S. and questioning a Thai who lives there about comments he made online about the monarchy. He was later charged with lese majeste. I have a very different...

Re: Website editor facing 50 years in jail

I would not be too sure about saying anything you want. Thailand is not a country of free speech and the rules suit those in power at the time. The powers to be seem really concerned about what is said and posted about Thailand and go to great lengths to control it.

Khondahm said it right. As far as Abphisit is concerned he did what he was told to do. He is not calling the shots and never was.

Re: State of Emergency in Udon

My gf lives in a small village out of Nong Khai, she says everyone is saying they want a vote and have their voices heard. Sounds like red shirt people to me, I am sure some don't like the violence that has happened but I think they all agree on the same basic ideas. We must remember that it was the...

Glyn, that was the best account of the situation I have heard yet. Everything you stated was nothing but the facts and it is nice that some people can see what is happening here. I think too many people are only concerned about there own comfort and can't or won't look at the big picture.

Re: Safety in Udon Thani

I said before that if the government forced the protesters out of bangkok with military force it would create a huge problem, well they did it and now the real trouble starts. The protesters aren't beaten and cannot be, but now we will see assassinations and bombings similar to the south of Thailand...

Re: Deaths in Bangkok

This was an assassination, plain and simple, not legal, not right and a disgusting thing to do. If people are guilty of a crime we have courts to deal with that, otherwise we are lost. He was talking to some reporters at the time, not shooting at anyone. Anyone who rejoices in a death like this is s...

Hi Zurcal, Actually my gf comes from a family that is not well off but they are doing o.k. They all work hard growing rice and small jobs here and there. There home is basic but better than some. Re: Safety in Udon Thani

Udon may be safe now as is most of the country but if the government manages to force the reds out of Bangkok with military force the reds will have to use other measures that will be long lasting and more dangerous. I am afraid of a situation similar to the south. You can not beat a problem like th...

Re: Sin Sod, marry in udon

This woman you are with is clearly after your money, get out now. There are good girls out there. I have been with my gf for 3 years and have never been pressured for money or gifts. Her family does not ask for anything as well. On top of that she is beautiful, smart, kind and possibly the nicest hu...

Re: Most damage - Red or Yellow ?

I would say the yellow because of the huge impact of closing the international airport. Also they started the problems that are causing the reds to protest now. Basically the wealthy Bangkok elite i.e. Yellow shirts want to keep control for themselves, the wealthy minority. This will not work anymor...

Re: Another Military Coup.

A dictatorship is stable as well but not necessarily a good way to live. If the rich have there way in Thailand the poor people who are the majority will always suffer. But things are going to change because the poor will make it happen. Unfortunately there will be a lot of pain in the process.

Hi, I live in Thailand about 6 months each year and the rest of the time in Vancouver B.C. I was very lucky and met a great lady on a dating site 2 years ago. Absolutely no problems with family or money and she is probably the nicest person I have ever met. Dating sites are loaded with land mines th...

Re: Rough treatment by traffic police

In Canada if you tried to run from the police they would run you off the road and if they thought you were a serious threat you could be shot. It happens. Whether the police in Thailand are stopping people for cash or to uphold the law if no one stops and no price is paid it just creates more bad dr...

Usually a good idea to do a little research on local customs before traveling, then again they might have just been rude people and will probably learn the hard way.
