BANGKOK BANK BEWARE !

Re. Paypal, this option can work out expensive for transfers. Not only do you have 3.4% for transaction fee, you also loose about 2-3% on paypal's exchange rate so you end up paying almost 6% in fees. Direct bank transfers are the best option for transferring money IMO. I've not dealt with Bangkok ...

Songkran - what are you going to do?

At least it will be a little quieter around NongPraJak. The sirens of ambulances have been quite an annoyance the last few days.

BANGKOK BANK BEWARE !

The cheapest/best way of transferring money for me is Paypal. Set up 2 Paypal accounts: one in the country where your money is and one in Thailand. Pull the money you want to transfer from your "home" bank into your "home" Paypal. Then email the money to your Thai PayPal account. Then transfer the m...

Air Asia payment by credit card

If you have a Kasikorn bank account you can enable a virtual credit card and use that to pay for the tickets. I haven't used mine for this purpose but I have heard it works without problems. BTW, I've had the same problem with my US cc on Air Asia's website.

Welfare system, sound familiar?

The biggest welfare system in America is the US military and US veterans' benefits and retirement scheme. Hopefully, the teabaggers will start cutting it down to size after they get finished with Social Security and Medicare.

Re: non immigrant O , 1 year ?

The problem isn't so much the miss-information here, it's that the information Immigration gives you changes almost as often as the tides. Just because last month you were given certain requirements doesn't necessarily mean that will hold this month or next month. Best advice is to go to Immigration...

The current temperature forecast for Udon Thani on Monday, March 21st is over 100F, so I wouldn't complain too much about this weather.

Re: Bus to Nong Khai

I arrived at 7:15am at Bus Station 2 on the west side of Udon Thani expecting a bus to leave for Nong Khai at 7:30. Unfortunately, there is no 7:30 am bus, only an 8am bus. The bus didn't depart until 8:15am and then went to a location near the northern bus terminal and waited until 9am. After sever...

Re: Bus to Nong Khai

Can anyone confirm the 9am bus departure to Nong Khai from the central bus terminal? The last time I went (about 4 months ago), the earliest bus to Nong Khai was at 11am.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Can anyone confirm Udon Immigration move?

I can confirm the new immigration office is indeed open. There is a road on the right side of the police station. Follow that road to the end and turn right for the immigration office. I haven't been to the Udon Immigration office in more than a year but my experience was very pleasant. You have to ...

Can anyone confirm Udon Immigration move?

I was wondering if anyone has been to the new Udon Thani Immigration office or if it really has moved.

How efficient was it? How long was the wait?

Re: U.S.Consular Outreach in Udorn on September 21

Just got back from the outreach service this morning and I have to say it was the most pleasant US consular experience I've had in my 13 years as an expat... very professional, friendly, fast. I was in and out in 15 minutes.

Well done gentlemen.

Re: Buying Furniture

The shop is on the left side as you look at the prison. You can't miss it as they have the front open and even have a few items on the sidewalk. The man whom we paid actually was actually a policeman. Yes, the items are actually made by inmates, but the quality is quite good. Do a Google Maps search...

Just got back from the prison store and found exactly what I was looking for at good prices ( the labeled prices are the starting point for negotiations).

Re: Buying Furniture

Just wanted to bump this topic as I will be furnishing my home this week or next. Is the prison shop still in business and is it located at the prison?

Thanks in advance.
