Re: Gypsum Ceiling

A lot of great information there - thank you so much guys. My bathroom walls are only as high as privacy demands. There a couple of more metres to ceiling height. There won't be any moisture problem here.

Ceiling - labour cost

I am being quoted 100 baht/sq metre to fix and finish my ceiling. Is this a fair price in todays market?

Re: Ceiling - gypsum sheet thickness

Have found the answers I needed by downloading a plasterboard design and installation guide from Boral Australia. The two standard Boral thicknesses in Oz are 10 mm and 13 mm (equating approx. to 9.5 mm and 12 mm in Thailand). Firstly, only 10 mm board can use 60 cm batten spacings - thicker board m...

Ceiling - gypsum sheet thickness

I am getting close to ceiling installation and perhaps some members can give me the benefit of their experience. I have set the roof frame up with rafters at 1.2m centres, and transverse steel ceiling purlins at 60cm centres. I am sure that in Oz we used 12mm thick Gyprock sheets. However the thicke...

Re: surveillance cameras

^ Maybe you could run the Yi's power supplies (adapters) off their own UPS, say 1000 W. Being only 5V and maybe around 0.5 A, I reckon the city power would need to be off for a fair amount of time before the UPS runs out of juice. If your assumption of 0.5A drain is close, then it would use 2.5 Wat...

Re: John's budget build

All of the external windows and doors have now been installed, and I am generally very pleased with the result. Just two minor hiccups which the manufacturer is now addressing. The screen for one of the sliding doors is being redone, and there is an issue with the window in the main bedroom. The spe...

Re: RooJai Car and Motorbike Insurance

Hi Barney The online standard coverage for personal accident and medical expenses was 200,000 baht in each case. A button at the end of these lines opened up an options box with additional premium to increase these amounts to 500,000 in each case. I am now not sure how much the extra premium was, bu...

Re: RooJai Car and Motorbike Insurance

Hi all My wife bought a used car (2016 Proton Preve AT 1.6 L turbo, 50000 kms) on Tuesday. It stayed garaged until I sorted out the insurance (Thursday afternoon). Originally I was prepared to go with Direct Asia https://secure.directasia.co.th/motor/quote/get-quote#start but she has held a DL for o...

Re: Chanote Title Deeds for Land

Hi Pipoz Have just seen this forum post. In Australia (and I guess other countries where land title evolved out of the British system), the tenure of joint holdings is specified in the transfer document and recorded on the title deed (if one exists). The two tenures are: 1. as joint tenants (automat...

Re: John's budget build

Well, as in the adage, the best laid plans of mice and men are apt to go awry. And so it was that my plans for moving in at an early date were turned on their head. The last wall to be finished was at the front of the house, and the front patio was going to happen some time in the future. As the wall...

Sourcing a few blank recordable DVDs

I haven't bought a DVD of any description for more than ten years. However, I have recently found the need to buy a couple (few) of blank recordable DVDs. My search so far has been unsuccesful. Now I don't want to attract 'Why would you want to ... when ...' posts. If that is your thinking, start yo...

Re: John's budget build

Hi Pipoz Hoping to have the external windows and doors in, and the ceiling up by the first week in May. Probably move some furniture in during July. However, I will be commuting to/from BKK for perhaps another 18 months, so will still have furniture in both BKK and Udon until that time. For instance...
