Re: RooJai Car and Motorbike Insurance

Hi Barney The online standard coverage for personal accident and medical expenses was 200,000 baht in each case. A button at the end of these lines opened up an options box with additional premium to increase these amounts to 500,000 in each case. I am now not sure how much the extra premium was, bu...

Re: RooJai Car and Motorbike Insurance

Hi all My wife bought a used car (2016 Proton Preve AT 1.6 L turbo, 50000 kms) on Tuesday. It stayed garaged until I sorted out the insurance (Thursday afternoon). Originally I was prepared to go with Direct Asia https://secure.directasia.co.th/motor/quote/get-quote#start but she has held a DL for o...

Re: Chanote Title Deeds for Land

Hi Pipoz Have just seen this forum post. In Australia (and I guess other countries where land title evolved out of the British system), the tenure of joint holdings is specified in the transfer document and recorded on the title deed (if one exists). The two tenures are: 1. as joint tenants (automat...

Re: John's budget build

Well, as in the adage, the best laid plans of mice and men are apt to go awry. And so it was that my plans for moving in at an early date were turned on their head. The last wall to be finished was at the front of the house, and the front patio was going to happen some time in the future. As the wall...

Sourcing a few blank recordable DVDs

I haven't bought a DVD of any description for more than ten years. However, I have recently found the need to buy a couple (few) of blank recordable DVDs. My search so far has been unsuccesful. Now I don't want to attract 'Why would you want to ... when ...' posts. If that is your thinking, start yo...

Re: John's budget build

Hi Pipoz Hoping to have the external windows and doors in, and the ceiling up by the first week in May. Probably move some furniture in during July. However, I will be commuting to/from BKK for perhaps another 18 months, so will still have furniture in both BKK and Udon until that time. For instance...

Re: John's budget build

And in the meantime, the missus has been quitely going about putting things together for the new house. Today one of her best friends left Udon with her husband and newborn baby to start a new life in Norway. We are storing quite a lot of stuff for them, but have benefitted by buying this two peice ...

Back in Udon on the building site for seven weeks, the first of which has just finished. The rear wall is now 100% complete and 60% rendered, and the north wall 80% complete. Here are some photo updates. In the southwest corner, where the sun will come from during the late afternoon for around eight...

Re: Why low foreign currency values

The OP spoke of the strength of the THB, but the thread has recently been discussing the GBP and Brexit. Let's get it back on track and discuss the strength of the THB and all currencies. Some currencies (the CNY in particular) are totally managed and do not reflect day to day market variations, alt...

No, for sure, Oz pensions are paid direct from the Reserve Bank of Australia by SWIFT wire transfer to the nominated Thai bank account.

"Don't forget that if you use income and are one of the 4 affected you must start transfers in from abroad now, also there is no combination method for any other extension than retirement." Well, I am happy to say that I am one of the converted and have arranged for my Oz pension to be paid into my ...

Re: Latest news release from Pattaya Immigration - Bad news for retirees, some better news for married folk

One of the problems that arise here is that it is easy enough to demonstrate the regular pension bank deposits in one's own country, but not so easy to demonstrate what such payments were worth in Thai baht at the time the payment was made. This has been recognised by Thai Immigration and hence the ...

'Saying I built a house for 300K doesn't exactly earn one bragging rights! As I have said before, I know very little (although a lot more now) about home construction. I'm proud that the house stood up to the mini-tornado that demolished my other structure. I no longer have to worry about my in-laws...

Re: Low Budget Village Build For In-Laws

Pawpaws were popular in Queensland backyards, and when they becacme too tall to easily pick the fruit, we would cut them off at about the one metre mark and place a tin can over the stump (this was to prevent rain rotting the hollow trunk). Several new branches would spring up, and we would braek so...
