When scanning through recent posts on UM, I was amused to note that the most recent post on a thread titled "Christmas Turkeys", was by "Dunroamin"! :-k Indeed.

Old (US) Christmas special show from Thailand and SE Asia

I thought those with connections with the US military, Thailand, Vietnam and of course Udon/Udorn maybe interested in this Christmas show video from back in the days. Love some of the pronounciations.

Re: can you hike up 3 flights of stairs ?

I don't understand why the word "hike" was used. They appear to be talking about walking up 3 flights of stairs. Hiking suggests to me a long walk probably with boots and a rucksack and probably over uneven terrain.

Re: Come back Farangs! Tourism in Chiang Mai decimated by Chinese exodus

I've just returned back to blighty, from a 3 week trip to LOS, spending around 10 days in each of Nong Khai, Udon Thani and Bangkok, and I found the levels of tourists (and numbers of people) much lower than when I lived there previously or indeed upon previous visits. The locals I spoke to were of ...

Re: where to stay for 2 or 3 day visit

How do those 2 hotels (the Kavinburi and UD Residence) compare with the new UD Capital, almost across the road ( on the same side as and just beyond Nutty Park). I would guess the latter is noisier. UD Residence currently 690 bt. Kavinburi 1100/1300 bt. UD Capital 850bt. exc breakfast, except higher...

Re: Preferred Route & Airlines from Udon to Pattaya

Thanks runrunshaw. Yes I have a taxi company that I regularly use who will do the Swampy Pattaya run for 1100 bt.

I wasn't sure how much hassle U-Tapao might be.

Hotel close to Suvarnabhumi airport (accessible from Don Muang)

Any suggestions for a hotel to stay overnight close to Swampy airport, ideally with frequent free transfers to Swampy, ... and that will be easy to get to/find from Don Muang airport? E.g. that a taxi from Don Muang can find. Or a hotel close to an airport train station. (Flying into Bangkok Don Mua...

Thanks for the info Macca. Did you get given a printed report with coloured photos? (I did from Bumrungrad).

No one with any experience of having it done at AEK?

Re: Preferred Route & Airlines from Udon to Pattaya

Thanks for the replies.

Understood that U-Tapao is nearer to Pattaya (than Swampy), though the counter-balancing point for me is that I much prefer Thai Smile, their booking system and their check-in procedure, to Air Asia's (if it is Air Asia).

Preferred Route & Airlines from Udon to Pattaya

Noting that, it's now possible to fly Udon Thani to U-Tapao for Pattaya, are there any conclusions or recommendations as to whether it is preferable to fly with Thai Smile to Bangkok (Suvarnaphumi) and then taxi/mini-bus transfer to Pattaya or whether it's preferable to fly Udon to U-Tapao and then ...

Best local hospital for a Gastroscopy

Any suggestions which hospital and which consultant to use for a Gastroscopy/endoscopy? In an ideal world I would go to Bumrungrad, but to avoid the hassles of travel and accommodation in Bangkok, would prefer to get it done in Udon. In the distant past I have used, I think it was Dr Olam, who worke...

Re: UK GPs to see 15 patients at a time

Getting to see my GP isn't a problem. It's getting a referral onwards to see a consultant that is. After the GP makes a referral to an NHS consultant, it then takes weeks often months to actually get to see him. Sometimes a telephone consultation takes place in lieu of the first appointment.

Be wary of green tea capsules

Jim McCants took green tea capsules in a drive to get healthy in middle age. His doctors now say they left him needing an urgent liver transplant, writes the BBC's Tristan Quinn.

Re: Can you sail the Mekong

Can you sail up and down the Mekong river off Nongkhai, and beyond, in your own boat Maaka, I don't think it would be possible from a practical point of view. At certain times of the year the currents are fast and strong and there is debris including logs and tree trunks being carried downstream in...

Yes, indeed I know and remember Stan well. From early Udonmap days at the meetings in Udon night market in 2006 and much later when I moved to Nong Khai. He would often cycle along the Rimkhong in Nong Khai and stop for a chat.

Oh dear, yet another one bites the dust.

RIP Stan.

Me too. I currently use an olive oil based margarine, but don't know if that's better than real butter, or other margarines. I heard someone say margarine is plastic based. :?

Re: More Problems For The EU: Euro Slides After Italian Lawmaker Mentions Return To Own Currency

Someone in Britain (UK) needs to stand up to tell the EU that, it is the EU that owes Britain for all they have done in the past and not Britain that owes the EU. That if it wasn't for UK, the whole lot of those Fu..kcers in the EU would be speaking "HUN". As for France (who's army capitulated in 4...

Re: Coffee and Health

I use a DeLonghi machine and semi skimmed milk. My local coffee shops (barristars) in UK tell me not to keep the bags of coffee beans longer than 3 months (from the roasting date) and to keep them sealed and in the fridge until use, or the beans will dry out.

Re: Cost of topping up soil - per lorry/truck

Thanks for the input everyone. Essentially this land will be topped and levelled out and then left for a year or two before any building will take place. It is a middle plot of three, on a sloping (to the side) site. The upper/higher left hand plot was topped up by 500mm (before settling) and then b...
