Sunloungers

For Akwoodworker - I was rather hoping that you were going to respond to Tex's posting with a price for sunloungers. I could be interested in a couple too. :D

UK Inheritance Tax revision

In the Chancellor's recent speech it was announced that the threshold for Inheritance Tax for non-domiciled spouses (ie those without UK citizenship) is to be raised from the present level of £55,000 to £325.000, the same as their UK counterparts. Note that this is still a proposal only, but is of s...

Buying a new Toyota Yaris

I understood that the 100,000 rebate was restricted to Toyota and was for Government Employees only - can you elaborate a bit? :D We hear too many rumours.

Sunloungers

Does anyone know where I can purchase a 'sunlounger' with an adjustable reclining back? ie similar to those found by swimming pools and on the beach - either wood or plastic will do. :D

How to tell if you're still a farang

You're still a falang if you buy petrol for your motorbike from the pump instead of by the half bottle.

Thanks for your replies. I have just found that 'ToolPro' on the ring road has a new range of kitchen units at reasonable prices ie 80cm wall unit at Bt2,600. Worth a look. :D

Lollipop, She doesn't have to prove anything, everything is in her name. it is you who have to prove that they don't belong to her - and in Thai law that is going to be very, very difficult. You are being given friendly advice by the forum members - unfortunately it is not what you want to hear. I w...

Car window tinting: Good shop in Udon?

I guess that those of you who tint the windscreen don't do much night driving? It cuts the visibility by 40-60% and is deemed so dangerous that it is totally banned in UK.

On the other hand, here in Thailand it probably means that you don't see what hits you!!!!

Lollipop, if your father had a legitimate business there will be letters of incorporation and a tax number. His legitimate share will be 49% of the business, but all bank accounts, assets, vehicles etc will be in the name of the business and not the Thai lady. Any decent Thai lawyer can sort this ou...

Kitchen Cabinets and wall units etc

I am trying to find a source of UK/Western style fitted kitchen units for both the floor and the wall. I have seen such kitchens in new build houses outside Udon, and there are a few examples in Global House (however, these are very expensive). Does anyone know of a local source or anyone who can do...

Sound advice from Gary. I assume that your wife owns the 'farm', and as such obtaining a licence is quite easy and straight forward.

Kill off the fermentation (and get rid of the yeasty taste) with Camden tablets. I have found it best to let 'settle' for about six weeks then syphon into plastic bottles - lovely and clear. :D

UK State Pension, When in Thailand

When reviewing your state pension options (in terms of UK residency) is is most important to take into account all UK sourced income (you mentionned a house being rented out). You have to balance whether by being 'non resident' any gain in reduced UK tax is greater than any loss in pension increases...

I have a Ford Focus in the UK and a Honda City in Thailand - both great reliable cars. However, I also have a Toyota 4 x 4 two door pick-up in Thailand which is great to drive and feels 'safer' on these roads

I'm afraid I can't read Thai, Parrot, but I can tell you that whatever you have typed here in Thai is definately NOT the Thai wording used in the Udon Thani Immigration Office leaflet, and even if it were then sureley: "the money must be in the account for the previous 3 months, not less than 800,0...

I have a ssumed, as I expect most readers have, that by 'Expats' we are referring to those from 'Western' countries, and not for example of expatriates from Burma, Cambosia, Philpines etc. I believe that at present the residence /visa/land ownership laws apply to all equally - so is Mr Information t...

Wood flooring finish recommendation

A Couple of coats Exterior grade Polyurethane varnish (available in stain or matt finish) should last a few years - it all depend on the type of wood you used.
