Re: UK Economy

The collapse of Fosun Group’s flagship European investment, Thomas Cook, is proving to be a reality check for the Chinese conglomerate’s ambitions to create a global travel empire via flashy acquisitions. After months of talks to hammer out a $1.1 billion bailout package, Shanghai-based Fosun -- the...

Re: A Sign of the Times? Udon Immigration 90 day report.

Was there about 30 minutes ago to do the 90 day report. All of three minutes at most. No one ahead of me at the 90 day report desk and maybe two or three at the processing desks. No one in the "waiting" chairs.

………. may be a (Tallahatchie) bridge too far.
I grew up in the Missouri Ozarks and we listened to the "Opry" on radio ever since I can remember. When I think about "Ode to Billy Joe" being a number one hit 52 years ago, the passage of time really starts to come in focus.

Perhaps I'm reading the data wrong but it looks to me that Huai Luang reservoir has a current volume of 44 mcm and is at 32% of maximum storage level with 27% of the maximum volume being usable. Thanks for including the link to the data report. Nice to be able to see how the rains are impacting our ...

I fully concur. Have also been here for a dozen plus years and agree with your observations and assessments. We still have a home in the States and visit for a couple of months every so often but returning to Udon Thani always feels comfortable.

Yes, happy Independence Day, a time of commemoration and celebration. Always a big event back home with food, fun family, friends and fireworks. One of the annual holidays I really enjoyed.

Hey Dean,

Our niece in Chiang Mai (university student) needs a bike and yours would be a good fit. I'd be happy to meet your 25,000 baht asking price. We live not far from you in Ban Jan. Please contact me if you are still wanting to sell the bike.

Jack & saint have it right. Laan Yaa Mo has been a consistently accurate and helpful member for a lot of years. He has a lovely wife in Khon Kaen and is quite knowledgeable about Thai history and culture. A stand-up guy who has contributed much insight on the forum.

I didn't see the opening ceremonies before the bout and was unaware that they played the Mexican National Anthem. His parents are Mexican immigrants but Andy was born in California, grew up there and graduated high school in his home town of Imperial. Perhaps as a Mexican-American he has a choice of...

Not camping chairs but we got some pretty sturdy folding camp stools at Makro some time back. Not sure if Makro still carries them but they were available in the past. Good luck.

Mrs. Shado says honking the horn is just considered to be impolite mai soo phaap (ไม่สุภาพ). Apparently, it's acceptable under certain circumstances but generally Thais save the horn honking for driving past the wat or a shrine. Yes, I know the explanation seems incongruous considering all of the ot...

He has an office on the ring road pretty much opposite from Tesco Lotus Extra. If it's Chokchai Gates you're talking about I'm not sure if the current intersection construction has impacted his shop or not. We've received good service from them. If the shop isn't open due to the construction these ...

These are the jars that made me think they may have given the name to the clavicle. The rim looks a bit like a collarbone. That's just my take on it though.

Re: learning the thai language

A while back my wife had a slight injury to her right clavicle, not broken or cracked but quite painful. We went to see Dr. Chatchi on Si Suk Rd. and he took care of the problem. It was then that I learned that the Thai word for clavicle was gra duuk hai bplaa raa . I assumed it must have to do with...
