Re: Night Market Get Together

Nice meeting you, well the ones that I can remember! Nice night out indeed and uncannily, I managed to escape without paying for one of them beer tower thingies (must be my innate Scotish guile). I will be in for the January thrash so looking forward to sussing out the real lawn bowlers from the lon...

When is good time to show up? I may have Her Excellency and His Royal Highness in tow and the latter rules how long mummy and daddy can go out and play.

Re: Red plates for new car - none left this year!?

Why not buy one of those auspicious number plates? The wife told me at the auction for auspicious numbers in Chonburi, someone recently paid 2.8 million baht for 9999. Then when the police see your number they'll know not to bother you. Also, I've been led to believe that the red plates are rented....

Re: FARANG SOCIAL CLUB UDON

A couple of questions... maybe 3. Is there a NM meeting on Saturday night, 6th? Are any of the isaan old bowling duffers planning attending? If yes on both counts, where EXACTLY do you meet? I had a brewski with a mate afew weeks back on some yellow metal seats and tables beside those beer mountain/...

Lawn Bowling Club

'Lawn Bowling Social Club'... Hey Pakawala, isn't that the game where you spend 15 mins using all the skill and judgement that you possess to get your woods nicely nestled around the jack, only for your opponent to sling the ball down with as much venom as he can muster and completely scatter the l...

Red plates for new car - none left this year!?

Here's a question regarding the red temporary registration plates that the dealer sticks on a new car while the government agency takes 2 months to issue the final white plates. Apparently, according to the sales staff at the Honda dealership, they have run out of red plates for this year due to slo...

Lawn Bowling Club

I like the idea of the lawn bowling social club. I enjoyed being a junior member when I was growing up in Nairn, Scotland and memorable afternoon as a guest at the Tweed Heads Bowling Club when I was a young kid in the oil patch in Australia. It's an excellent and enjoyable game where anyone can lea...

Re: A Lost Dog and how thais do compassion

Ease up on the Thai compassion slant. You go to a fairground in UK/US/A N Other country with your super cute unleashed dog. Travellers (is that the PC term these days?) are the same the world over, they will steal it. It has buggerall to do with Thai compassion or a deficiency thereof. It's all abou...

Re: Avis Udon Airport - Credit Card cloning warning

I was wondering if the author of the blog (and BM) had booked the car in advance online with Avis since it would appear that the scammer is still working at their desk. When I rented, I booked the car online and as usual signed the 'security' and 'rental' charges. When I dropped off the car a day ea...

Re: Avis Udon Airport - Credit Card cloning warning

Does anyone really think it is within the wit and competence of the local BiB to investigate such fraud. [-( A "victimless" crime, which I am sure would only be followed up if suitable incentives were offered. AVIS should be the better avenue, with a paper (email) trail which could be out on the in...

Re: Avis Udon Airport - Credit Card cloning warning

I am not sure if it's cloning or abuse of the arcane system of swiping your plastic twice, once for a 'security' deposit (refundable at rentals end) and the second time for the actual rental total. All the other Thai car rental agencies do this and I have only ever seen this done in Cuba. Other coun...

Re: Air Asia second dialy flight

The domestic security remove your bottled water as you enter the gate area from the check-in area at Swampy but you can still buy bottled water before you get to the gate so no need to stress about your drinking supplies, just make sure your other ungents and pastes are in the correct ziplok bag. Al...

Re: A good barber shop

Next door to the Karin Hotel. A profesional barbers outfit. When they stand out the on street (without their white coats) you could mistake them for a bunch of lawyers. That's the shop I use when in town. I like the guy who tends to the chair down the bottom end, does it exactly as instructed witho...

A good barber shop

I was down in Pattaya and my usual hairdresser is hospitalised so I need a decent shearing before I head for Vegas this Sunday. Any recommended barber shops or hairdressers in Udon? Nothing extravagant wanted, just a decent short back and sides will do. I heard of one on 'Soi jet' (?) but don't know...

Re: Nokia service in Udon

OK, one day and 800 baht later, the slider is fully functional again with a 30-day warranty. They even showed me the dodgy ribbon connector.

I used "Mr Service" inside the IT WAP zone upstairs at Robinson Mall, he is located against the back wall.

Re: Nokia service in Udon

The firmware fukced up on my near new 2630 a few months ago - had it re-installed at one of the stalls on the 2nd floor at Robinsons. There is also what looks like an official Nokia shop on the 3rd floor - but no idea as to their capabilities. Do you reckon it is a hardware or software problem? The...

Nokia service in Udon

The Nokia TH website shows a Khon Kaen service center. My 6270 slider function buttons have gone dead although the main keypad still works. I am wondering if anyone has found a good Nokia repair shop in Udon. There's loads of stalls in the Robinson mall that have 'Nokia Service' signs but doubt that...

Re: good on you guys

I have never been to a NM gathering, nor do I hang out at the usual expat social retreats. I avoid eye-contact with any and all farangs I see in the malls or supermarkets. I used to live in Pattaya and still retain the 'bolt-hole' there for the odd trip to the seaside. When I see a farang with pissp...
