Driving on the wrong side

Not common sense to someone brought up to believe that turning the lights on consumes more fuel.
That's village wisdom for you.

Udon Thani / Thailand Post & Courier details

Does anyone have recent experience sending important documents FROM Thailand by courier? Who best to use and how to drop off the item locally. I asked lawyer to use courier to send to us in UK. She seemed unaware of who DHL, UPS and FedEx are and said they use the Thai mail for everything, I guess t...

reserve water tank

A water leak on the supply side of the water pump is not going to cause the pump to cycle on and off. Correct. I've got that. Plumber today appeared to bleed the pump and replace a spring on what I think is the output side. The pump has now ceased rapid cycling on and off. So far so good. But that ...

reserve water tank

Thanks for that everyone. The developer called the plumber because he suspected an underground leak. Plumber chose to ignore that it seems. My own check of the very new water meter now shows consumption of 10 cubic meters by a family of 2 in only 12 days. I should have looked earlier. The dial spins...

reserve water tank

I hope this isn't too far off topic but I have a query about my reserve water tank. It's the brown plastic type. New house and new tank. New pump and some complicated blue pipe work and taps. My issue is that the noisy pump is constantly clicking on and off several times a minute, irrespective of wh...

Insurance for new house

I've recently arranged my house and contents insurance through Roong at Squires. Insured with AIG. Premium under 7K. Thanks for the info everyone. That's 3 contacts to make a start. That premium of 7K is presumably based on a rebuild cost. Any idea how they calculate that? My understanding is that ...

Insurance for new house

We're completing on purchase of a new build house in a few weeks and would like to insure it straight away. Preliminary research confirms what I expected, that it's all very different in Thailand and I'm on a steep learning curve. Does anyone have direct, recent experience and can give a few pointer...

A fascinating tale, and one that got me thinking. Exactly 4 years ago I accompanied a woman on a planned visit back to her home. It was in a dusty little village, with no name I could establish at the time, somewhere 'behind the mountain' in backwoods Isaan. I knew I liked her but I didn't really kn...

If you are comming with a Thai spouse who has lived outside of the country for a considerable amount of time, a lot of thinking needs to go into the process. The spouse will no longer be Thai but a Falang/Thai It always was my grand plan to retire to Thailand. Now, a few years down the road my dear...
