There's a decent sized one going toward Sakon Nakon on Phosi Road. It's on the left just past the ring road about 100 meters or so from the intersection. The stuff I saw was mostly rough cut and not cured yet. But still pricey.

A new wrinkle with my 90 day extension

I went up to Nong Khai to do my 90 day notification and ran into something a little different. They noticed that all my yearly visa extensions had been done in Pattaya so they took my passport and made a copy of the picture page, original visa, latest extension, and entry card. There was no hassle a...

I stayed there several days around the first of the year and liked it pretty well. It's new with good sized, well furnished rooms that are pretty quiet. The staff is friendly. I don't know about the guest policy but I doubt it's a problem. It has free wireless internet that sometimes works. No resta...

A follow-up on Banpaeng's post last year about Stedfast 4 SC bug spray from Homemart. We started having ant problems too and tried the canned sprays around the doors and windows without much effect. And I didn't want to use too much in the kitchen. Found this thread and tried the Stedfast but I was ...

Thanks for the info. I'm leasing a house for a year and the landlord lives close by so there shouldn't be a problem. Although it's annoying for them to arbitrarily decide there's a new requirement. Guess if I decide to do it in BKK or Pattaya I'd better stay at a more suitably named hotel! The thing...

Val, did BKK ask for a Proof of Residence? Since this is my first year in Udon I'm tempted to go back to Pattaya and renew. As of last year, which I realize may have changed, no Proof of Residence, no requirement for a new letter from the embassy every year, no quibble that with proof of income you ...

I suspect you're SOL on that. I use Quicken 2006 but the financial institution list is updated frequently so it should be the same. I didn't see anything outside the US on that list. I don't know if there's an international version of Quicken or not. If Quicken 2007 is the same as 2006 you can go to...

I think you're thinking about ammonia and bleach. That makes chlorine gas - one of the poison gases used in WWI. Caustic Soda and hydrochloric acid just make salt and water. But if they're both concentrated it can do it with a lot of heat and give you some blow back from the pipe.

Be really careful if you decide to give the hydrochloric acid a try. If it mixes with sodium hydroxide while they are both concentrated you can get a pretty strong reaction. Just flush the pipe with water before adding the acid. I don't know if you can find it in the plumbing shops here but sulfuric...

That may be how they described the procedure I had but the radiation itself was from Xrays. The system is called IGRT for Image Guided Radiation Therapy. The setup is fairly involved with CT scans and stuff but the treatments were simple I just had to lie real still for 15 minutes. The lasers were u...

My story's the other way around. Normal physical exam but a slightly elevated PSA (5 to 6) and a free PSA below 20%. The doctor strongly recommended a biopsy. That showed I had early cancer on both sides but it was still inside the prostate. I had one of the newer radiation methods last year that wa...

I've been using Firefox since 2004 when the 1.0 version was released and have been extremely happy with it. It's certainly a lot more secure than IE's ActiveX, almost monthly security patches, and all the script kiddies banging away at it. I can't image having to downgrade to IE on a routine basis. ...

I've gotten consistently better rates with wire transfers than any other method. Also, I'm a bit paranoid about fraud over here so I try to minimize the use of my US based plastic. Bangkok Bank charges 500 baht per transfer so you don't want to bring it over 5,000 baht at a time. I noticed there was...

Even for the little things Home Pro seems quite helpful. I went to try to find a brighter fluorescent bulb with a better color than the ones in my rental house. I've actually been toying with the idea of doing what Doc's talking about. We've got about half a houseful of furniture so we're sort of betwixt and between. Not enough to furnish a house but too much to really fit in a fully furnished house. Since we're going to build a house in the near future I'v...

Well, I guess I either overstated my requirements or under estimated how much it will cost. For me a modern house is something built in the last 15 or 20 years and in decent repair. Although I would hope the aircons were more recent. I had picked my target price from looking at some of the previous ...

Also looking for a house to rent

My wife and I plan to move to Udon next month and are driving up in a couple of weeks to look for a house to rent. I've looked over the last few months' postings, especially sp12's thread last month, and it seems that First Homes, PK Thani, Krissana VIP Home, and perhaps BB Resort are good places to...
