Health Insurance

Have BUPA with my wife and two children for 5-6 years now. Claims have generally been processed without issue. Seems like I pay about 125,000 baht per year for all of us, mine being the most expensive as my age in fifties and have higher level of cover (and note I did not include OPD for myself, to ...

How to Measure Usable Space in New Home

"include porches, balconies, carports, etc" This is correct.

I had a house in Phuket with 454 m2 usable area as promoted by the developer, of which about 212 m2 was actually interior with AC. It was the epitome of indoor / outdoor living! Cover it with concrete, and it becomes usable area!

Dog bite in Thailand - a word of Warning

A few years ago I was walking on the sidewalk near my home in Phuket after just landing from Udon, a dog lying there suddenly lept up and bit my leg, broke the skin. A policeman was nearby so I told him what happened, he nonchalantly told me to go to the hospital a....nd he could care less about the...

Am not a frequent patron here, though each time I/we went for a breakfast or just an early evening drink, everything was just right. A nice place to sit morning or evening and watch Udon Thani strolling and whizzing by.

Bangkok Taxi Driver Abandon's Passenger on Highway

Has become difficult getting into a taxi around Sukhumvit, they pull up to you leaving doors locked and lower the window enough to hear your destination, then they decide if they want your fare or not. Not unusual to deal with 5-10 taxis to get one ride these days. Seldom used to happen, now it is t...

The Base / Sansiri Condo open!

A week after their grand opening sales event in May 2013, the first day bookings could be made, 95% was sold out. I wonder today early 2016 what percent is sold out, vs available, meaning if all those buyers took possession with cash or financing, or if many units reverted back to Sansiri due to a m...

High hopes! http://thainews.prd.go.th/website_en/news/news_detail/WNECO5809210010002 "The renovated building, when combined with the existing passenger terminal, would be able to handle up to 1,200 passengers per hour." This article a bit dated though I did not see much other news or updates on the ...

Dark vs Light Liquor.

Aarvark thanks for educating me, and kindly also explain why many blended scotches (and not sure about single malts) add caramel coloring? They need the color (?), does it also modify and add to the taste etc?

I know very little about Scotch.

Interesting article. Bourbon is on the rise again. See below link under legal requirements. A couple of key points, "straight bourbon" by law comes off the still at a lower proof than vodka, leaving the so called congeners in, which adds flavor. However, most of the aroma, color and taste comes from...

My wife informs me that from next year there will be significantly higher property taxes on homes above a certain value.

Can anyone clarify if true, and how it will be calculated?

Bangkok Air supends flights from 2 November

Nok Air has many flights to Udon....but.....I booked four passengers last week to Bangkok, a couple days before our travel day, they cancelled the flight and we had to rebook (at no charge) on another Nok flight. Then for our return, ditto, they cancelled our original flight, and we had to rebook to...

Casa de Cellini - new project 2015 - has ready to see finished homes, including a "must see" show house that is fully furnished to a very high spec. Located 100 meters from Paramin Nursery and Kindergarten, on the inner road from town to the airport. Look for a small sign pointing the way, on the so...

Charlie, it may be that Le Cellini is the project not named by Papa. Fees since 2008 where 3000 baht per month, now going up to 5000 baht per month, and nobody is complaining that I know of, we like to keep it nice. 24 houses to be exact, down from original 26 since two units became double land plot...

Pomps I believe there is an additional menu page with small side dishes for around 49 baht each, such as small salad, kimchee, mashed, etc which when added to say a salmon makes it more of a complete meal with veggies.

I am definitely one of the cheap Charlie's who wait for Thursdays or weekends to get 30% off their Wagyu steak! My kids simply love the rib eye, and elsewhere they never like steak, too tough for them to eat. In the beginning, the Wagyu night even included a free glass of wine. It is a great promoti...
