Hydrochloric Acid Leak, Udon

Hmmm, very interesting. Usually HCl is transported in plastic containers. Perhaps the tanks are lined with plastic. This acid was used with chlorine for many decades in swimming pools. I still cringe at the thought that it is a common bathroom cleaner in Thailand (e.g., Vixol). Not only is it danger...

Aluminium Windows with fly screens made to size

The interesting thing about screens for windows in Thailand is that they are always put on the inside such that one must open the screen in order to open (or close) the window. We designed and made our aluminum ones in a unique way so that the screen is on the outside and pesky mosquitos don't come ...

Why are helmet laws enforced?

On the corner of Posri and Ampher roads is probably the biggest motorcycle parts store in Udon. I think it is called SriWilai but I'm not one hundred percent sure. They have a pretty good selection of helmets. You can also try to get a genuine Honda helmet at a Honda motorcycle dealer, some do stock...

B&N Nook

I have a Nook and am not yet able to see Thai books in ePub format yet. Pdf files are readable but I'd rather have them in ePub format. I can't read Thai Rath yet. I believe I need to add some fonts. There are some discussions about this on http://www.mobileread.com

Replacement cushion inners for sofa & armchairs

Mutt Mee is the died-in-the-thread fabric here. Traditionally it is cotton and the background is blue with a white pattern. The seat cushion material we used was "foam." The natural fibre that you are alergic to is kapoc http://www.google.co.th/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=kapok%20tree&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CCcQ...

crushed rock source

Parrot, The crushed blue limestone comes from Na Klang District in Nong Bua Lum Phu (or from Wang Sa Pung in Loei). The sizes you'd be interested in are probably 1/4" (stone dust), 3/8" or 3/4" The sizes are determined by the 3 or 4 screens they use in the sifter boxes. I think that for a garden pat...

Replacement cushion inners for sofa & armchairs

My wife just had our sofa seat cushion redone. She spec'd a dense foam and covered it in "mutmee." 2300 baht at Worachak Karn Chang on Adunyadet Road; on the other end of the block from the German sausage maker/baker. It came out OK.

Phu Phrabat Historical Park & Other Attractions

Phu Prabaht is my favorite national park in Thailand. There is another little known (and less well maintained) trail that starts from near the entrance to the temple. It's a few kilometers in and out with a stream to cool your feet in. I like to spot mushrooms at this park; there are many kinds but ...

Tesco's Price Increases

I was in Macro last month and they had some nice additions to their bread line. Something along the lines of Tesco's so-called continental breads. A while back I talked to a the Tesco head baker about their fancy continental breads. He said they are imported frozen and heated up. I found that incred...

Paradise Hotel Udon Thani

Some friends stayed there last weekend. They seemed pretty happy with the facilities and service. Seems that the kitchen is not fully functional and the restaraunt is a little inconvenient to get too. I think they have a new swimming pool. Wasn't the old Paradise on the other side of the road?? And,...

All'board: Nakorn Phanom bound

Yes indeed - new news: the destination will be Nakorn Phanom. I don't know if it will start in Khon Kaen or Udon. I'd definitely expect a stop in Sakol Nakorn. Keep your ears open news hounds; there's bound to be more details soon. Interesting that this doesn't seem to have been a political football...

Re: sandblasting bicycle shop

The only place I know that does sandblasting is Udon Nam Semi Karn Chang. It's on the road to Nong Khai on the right side about 12 km out. Khun Anun and his wife Wanida don't have much english speaking capability. Their son might if he's home from school in Bangkok. You might have to do a bit of tal...

We used to be able to get powdered milk at Tesco but no more. I did some research awhile back and I believe that you can order it in large sacks from Bangkok. I think some bakerys in Udon do this. Here is some contact information for 2 sources that you might try: "White Group" Work: 023811333 Home: ...

Re: Upper Floor construction

Arjay, I think I understand what Ray's asking about and the fibre-cement board I describe would likely fit his needs. Ray describes a replacement for plywood on an all wood 'second' story. Thick fibre cement board comes in the same length and width as plywood [4 x 8 ft] and can be cut with a radial ...
