CEMENT BOARD

Hi Bob and Parrot, Thailand has several producers of non-asbestos fibre-cement board. The brand I used for a storage loft was 'Viva Board.' They offer several thicknesses. For my loft I think I used 20 mm. Come on out and have a look. This type of material is susceptible to shrinking and expanding f...

Re: Dave Folland has Cancer

There will be a requiem mass for David on Wednesday 21 October at 10.00 am at St. Joseph's church in Ban Thin (David's home village). This is a traditional Thai 100-day merit making event. Today I talked with Noy, David's wife. As with any Thai, she feels a filial obligation to do right by her husba...

Re: Renewing the extension on a Non O Visa

I went to extend my non-immigrant "o" visa last month for the 18th time and for the first time I had a little problem: Last year an officer asked me to consolidate my bank accounts and just show one account for simplicity. I did that just a month before applying for my extension. It didn't meet the ...

Re: Sunday Mass and Christmas Mass?

I'm sorry I didn't see this post sooner. There is Catholic Mass in English every Saturday evening at the Capucian Cloistered Sisters Chapel. This is located behind the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral in the Cathedral compound. This is located across the street from Macro in Udon Thani. Mass sta...

Re: Public swimming pool ?

The pool at the Chareon hotel is not open to non-guests.

Ratchanutit School has a large pool at the least cost. It has no kiddie pool. You can sit in the bleachers.

Don Bosco School has a very nice pool with a kiddy pool and places to sit. Some snacks are available.

I'd like to make a fairly complete list for Nong Khai. There is a group of 39 University students coming for 3 weeks. I'd like to be able to tell them where and when they can go to find a church service in their denomination. I wonder if there are any services in English. When I travel I often go to...

I like to use Jum Jim Photoshop for prints (35mm or digital). They do excellent work and can accomodate most special requests. They also sell come cameras and have some well-thought out opinions about cameras and photography. For slides I mail my film to a shop in Bangkok. I use a Canon Rebel X 35 m...

Dear Kudjap,
The easiest thing to do is take your phone into AIS' office across from St. Mary School. There are some settings for the phone and some for your computer (modem settings).

Thanks John, A retired mason would be an especially valuable person to help supervise/teach enthusiastic young volunteers. I think Habitat may be on site Monday, Christmas Eve, and Wednesday Boxing Day (and the rest of Christmas week). They want to lay the first 10 courses and pour reinforced concre...

Here is a photo of a house with the same floor plan: http://cvbt-web.org/Gallery/Indonesia/ SigliAceh/2nd_Orphan_House.jpg We built it in Aceh for a tsunami orphan in 2006. The houses in Udon will have the same floor plan but a lower wall height. You're welcome to come watch others lay blocks. Thank...

When I first arrived 17 years ago, I took my well water to the lab at the provincial hospital in Udon. They checked it for fecal material and found none. I was surprised to find that they checked rain water as well. That is because rain water can contain feces from lizards and birds. Water analysis ...
