Re: This Week's Shopping Deal

Not good news I'm afraid. If anyone like me used to enjoy the delicious bread etc from the Yamazaki bakers in Central which has been closed for relocation over 3 months now but displays an opening soon sign, well they are not, apparently there is some sort of contractual dispute with the landlords w...

Re: rich indians to the rescue of thai tourism

Being of a very logical mind I ask myself "Why would a Rich Indian, or rich any nationality, want to come to Thailand"? I am here enjoying my stay, undoubtably, but I am not any where near being described as being rich and my precise reason for doing so is because my limited finances enable me to en...

Re: Noisy Motorbikes.

so the bikes get let out of jail when the owner shows up with a stock muffler and/or the appropriate donation? Since there's not a whole helluva lot of racing tracks up here in Udon you'd think the cops would be hitting the after market shops that sell the prohibited items.. I asked the police chie...

Noisy Motorbikes.

The police in NWS got serious yesterday on this problem, they visited local schools and removed over a hundred illegally modified motorbikes. Today they rolled a road roller over them. I understand the parents have been told they can have the rest of the bike back after paying 2,000bht fine. About t...

Re: Is it time to say bye Thailand?

Well don't keep us in suspense then. Where would you suggest for those who want to play?! Cheaper and nicer sounds interesting, and do you mean near to Thailand or near to the home country? Well I am surprised, there's me thinking you a retired bank manager and now happily married again should be a...

Re: Is it time to say bye Thailand?

Gotta admit , i was thinking about this , and i decided if i was a sex tourist or a massive drinker of both . Basically i would spend most of my vacation in one bar or another , so NO i would not come to Thailand . With the Baht so strong against a lot of currencies then it would not be cheap , and...

Re: Udon Airport

Cant understand why the Royal Family uses the Main Airport. About 5 years ago they built a nice new building where the runways ends near the entrance on the main road and a new plane parking area was built. At the time I was told it was for Government Ministers & the Royal family to embark & disemb...

I think you have to stay in the UK for 6 months to get the pension uprated.
It is only uprated whilst you are in the UK, once you leave again it reverts to what it was previously when you first left .

Re: Marriage Extension New Rule

^^ ^ Thanks for that Hoopoe and Old Grumpy. It's been maybe 10 years since I did a marriage extension at Udon and I vaguely remember the under consideration stamp. I recall way back then that the need to go back was a pain in the butt for some and along with the open encouragement from the IO's at ...

Cant argue with that Grumpy . spot on . Yeah Grumpy, whatever feeds your high horse mate. PS. Don't forget your (small) change. If maintaining the standards of my generation puts me on a high horse, so be it, that makes me proud, not ashamed. My only regret is that the tradition hasn't been passed ...

As for trying to get this obviously 'illegal' operation shut down, what if one of the benefactors of her 'scam' is an old gent, nice bloke, quiet, lived here for years, frozen pension, no other sustainable income, no home to go back to, bereft of any sort of financial safety net and barely self-ins...
