Whichever way it goes I've decided against composite, I've swam in them when I was in Aus and they aren't my thing. Rainy season seems to be early this year but I can wait.
Come to think of it mate,I've got a emaux sph 15 pump.its 1.5 hp and about right for your pool but you need a big sand filter for it.probably 30inch.the sph series is the top of the range and moves more water for less money.ive used it for 6 months for my jacuzzi but it's too powerful as I've only got 3 jets and need something smaller.cost 19,500baht I'll take 11,000b and guarantee it for 6 months.emaux are a good pump.i took one off this pool and it was about 15 years old and still going as strong as ever.do your research and get back to me.emaux sph 150,2 inch inlet outlet.remember the bigger the filter the better and don't have to run them as long.

This post is really exciting since I am also looking into investing into a pool when my house build begins, and I would really appreciate if you guys could share an estimate cost on how much you used (yeah I know it can costs as much as one wants, but I do not intend to pay insane farang prizes 😁😁)

Seems most have forgotten to install and bring out an earth bond conductor on the reo.
6 sq mm stranded and clamped and sealed with metal base paint such as zinc-it.

Size matters as the mrs tells me......you need to ask what size your thinking about first.8x4 metre is a nice size and manageable.1-2 metres in depth so you can dive in.thats 48 cubic metres of water.i would recommend a 1hp pump with an over sized sand filter,28 inch using zeolite and not sand.the object is to turn the whole pool water over or under 6 hours a day and this would be plenty.dont know about costs of building, maybe follow what vince is doing and self build is far the cheapest way.pool companies are mental prices and don't have much in the way of after care once they've been paid.also there is an art to looking after a pool in this climate.you tube is the best way to look into building a pool and maintaining it.they can be a nightmare with rain messing up the balance of the water and out here the debris of black soot when they burn the crops off.remember the pump should turn the water over at the least once a day and the bigger the filter the more it will pick up the dirt and not be forced through the filter and back into the pool.i think I may know someone who can give you a price (farang)

Kopkei, you have been a tremendous help, I’m very grateful. As for keeping the pool clean, I’ve always used granulated chlorine, it’s easy to dose and safe to handle so I’ll most likely stick to that.
The forest was shrinking daily but the trees kept voting for the axe as its handle was made of wood and they thought it was one of them.

Thanks @Barney, he’s going to come by and chat at our location tomorrow! We need a 3.5m x 6m x1.3m pool inground, tiled overflow pool.

Hey @Kopkei, your build pictures and advice are great! I am considering doing the pool start to finish DIY. Let’s see what Mr. Athit has to offer first.

I have a quote for tiled at 18000 m2 and a quote for fiberglass pool at 16000 m2. Ugh.

Does anyone have current suggestions for good cheap pool construction? (This thread needs some updates!) :-) Thank you.

my first advice would be , 3.5 x 6 ? ,you do not need an overflow system making it way more expensive , a skimmer system will do , do not use a sand filter.., you can save money on making the wall thickness 15cm instead of 20cm , using iron 9mm instead rebar 12mm , as many swim contractors also do ...it will make it cheaper and will do just fine
most expensive in pool building is the tiling , you can use the cheap swim pool tiles 200-300 baht box , or the fe kera tiles @ 750baht/box, beware 1 box is not 1m2 but 90 tiles (10x10cm),order those in time sometimes 1 month waiting time , do not use over expensive special cements ,also not for rendering , also electrical keep it simple normal connection with a timer of 350 baht ....piping same, all 1.5 inch/13.5 pipes with the use of double union valves ,
our pool 6x4m ,110 to 1.40m deep costed us 220.000 baht so a 9.200 baht/m2
you can look here https://www.coolthaihouse.com/forum/vie ... =19&t=5447
good luck... ;)

Thanks for the tips, kopkei!
I guess the overflow is extra expensive due to the holding tank? I like the look of overflow, maybe on one side only...

You like cartridge filter better than sand filter with glass (zelbrite)?

Where to get cheap pool tiles or fe kera (?) tiles? SCG makes Cotto pool tiles.

Regular cement and rendering and 9mm steel (double layer 20cm grid) makes sense to me. Where to get the waterproofing cement additive? What is it exactly? Need to add to the cpac and also to rendering, correct?

Is the weber pool grout sold in bag or bucket? Expensive, but important I know!

Thank you!

i have always used DE filter , presently however i am using a sand filter filled with zelbrite , it works ok but i still prefer the DE filter because this one solves easy any problem , you only have to filter 1 night , and water clear again , without the use of any chemicals , so 1/ DE filter , 2/ zelbrite , the regular waterproofing will do , fe lanko 322,you pay 50 baht/m3 more when ordering concrete including waterproofing, weber grouting is sold in a bucket that contains bags of grouting and small sacs of fluid to mix it with good for 25m2 ,tiles ?..looks like boonthavorn who is normally bloody expensive have kera @ a good price ..https://www.boonthavorn.com/catalogsear ... pool+tiles
the cheaper ones i think you can buy at global ? ,and yes overflow more expensive because gutter(s) and covering grating , more piping ,water holding tank...more work and not really needed for a small pool (needed when bigger than fe 10x5M)
and indeed a one sided overflow at the 3.5m side would work too , but still more expensive ...
water stop rubber @ global house , 1 roll = 20m (2.200 baht?) .... ;)

Kopkei, I should visit you to build up my DIY confidence a bit. The family is trying to sway me to the 19,000 Bt m2 option. I could sit back and watch money float away... into pool contractors pockets.

We now have a BIG hole done by the nephew on his Kubota, no straight dirt wall to work with. It will be like building above ground, but in a hole. Need 2 block walls poured with cpac in between, I guess. That is how SPTpools.com do it anyway.

I learned that 9mm rebar is all smooth here, no rebar ribs like the 12 mm. Global has the best 12mm price I found at 168 for Tiscon brand. The Weber pool grout buckets are 2,950 Bt now, and Lanko 322 waterproofing is 815 for 20 liters, weber tile adhesive 20kg 343 Bt. 25m water stop at 2,975.

I found Global to be too high on tiles, but found the SCG store at PTT on hwy 2 south to have 3 brands of pool tiles from 285 to 430 Bt per box. TCI, Imex, Srithanee brands. TCI has 1.4 m2 per box! That shop also has Sika plastocrete waterproofing additive for 750 Bt /25 liters.

How can I build free standing pool walls? Maybe rent steel forms and pour with no blocks?

All comments and advice appreciated? ;-)

everything is showed on the coolthaihouse website , first you make a hole in the floor 10cm bigger as the size of the pool,so for a pool 6x3.5x1.3 deep it would have to be about 6.70x4.1x1.3 deep if you leave it come 20cm above ground level ,(wall thickness 20cm,6m+40cm walls,14cm blocks,8cm space each side = ) grey blocks are about 7cm wide,we always started build the outer frame with gray blocks , followed by all the iron work and the water stop rubber , ,next pouring the floor and later fixing the wooden outer frame as water level as possible , if you build in between a frame of grey blocks you still have to support the inner wall with wooden panels as other wise everything would collapse , reminder also when pouring the concrete walls also filling up the space between outer block wall /ground gradually as the concrete mounts avoiding this outer wall to move , do not try to fill this before pouring concrete ,your wall will collapse, surely when you have bad luck and you get a rain shower in between... ,i am willing to give all information i can here ,but i am not into inviting everyone at our house anymore after having more bad experiences than good ones with this ,(falang problems ) ,sorry for this ... ;)

555! I can understand about farang troubles. I mostly avoid also! Good advice about walls, thanks. When the cpac truck comes to pour, how many/ few workers do I need? I have worked on pours when we had 10 guys and still got exhausted!

I used ‘snap ties’ before to hold two forms in place with metal rods, with little bracing. When you break off the rods/ties, the rented forms can be pulled off both sides of the walls. Maybe no hab in Thailand?

Thanks for advice!

when we poured the floor 1 worker and his wife ....
when we poured the walls 2 workers and pienongs filling up the dirt behind the gray blocks ...
i never understood the need of a lot people to work ...before when it was 120-150 baht a day it was not important one more or less but now at 300 and more (for the same worker)???.....no idea about the snap ties ... ;)

forgot to mention , if you are planning to tile the pool (not liner ) look around to order because mostly no stock , so longer waiting time , and use weber grouting for best result 2.840 baht /bucket/15 bags/dohome

They’re on display for order in most of the big shops, Boonthavorn, Global to name two.
There’s a couple of specialist swimming pool companies too on the ring road.

I got mine delivered from Pattaya. I’ve got quite a few leftover you can have cheaply to top up an order if you choose the same design 😂

There you go. I was a bit dubious about the “cracked” lacquer finish when they were recommended but now think they’re quite nice when submerged.

Sorry I won’t be recommending the company. After the delivery of tiles the rest of the supply turned into a right pickle. The builder on site blamed the supplier & naturally the supplier blamed the builder with me stuck in the middle. Sorted eventually as you can see but I won’t be using either of them again.

The same tiles are definitely available in Global & you’d probably get better service
