I've known several people who have tried to grow beef steak tomatoes in Udon.....all failed. And until today I've never seen beef steak tomatoes on sale in Udon. But Makro had them today......I can't speak for the flavor, but if you're looking for big tomatoes, Makro. About as big as a Fuji/Chinese apple.
These are back in stock at Makro. We enjoyed them the last time they were available and picked up some more today. I think the same price as before @ 79 baht / kilo (or thereabouts).

I've only eaten one so far. It was sweet and juicy. Maybe not quite as delectable as the home-grown Missouri tomatoes but close enough. These, at least, have a decent tomato taste. Certainly a nice change from the usual choices available here.

It looks like Big C are doing bogof on head and shoulders and cooking oil over Songkran.
The forest was shrinking daily but the trees kept voting for the axe as its handle was made of wood and they thought it was one of them.

On the Left side as you drive out of the large wholesale market next to Makro there is a shop / restaurent that specialises in duck. ( Talard Muang Tong )

I bought a frozen duck for 100 B. Included head/ feet no offal.

Not quite as big as the big ones you see hanging around town.

We got 2 bowls of noodle soup and 2 plates of duck meat.

Frame left over to make more soup.

Good value IMO

I looked for this purported bogof on oil and head and shoulders in BigC and couldn't find it all, if anyone does....

Thai Avocados at Makro

4 for approx 95-100 baht , weighted price so it slightly differs per packed bag.

Good bargain, when you consider Kiwi ones at Tops are 99 baht each or 119 baht at Villa.

Bon Aroma Coffee 100g

Post by vincemunday » June 5, 2017, 2:59 pm

Big C are doing their offer of buy 1 get 1 free on Bon Aroma 100g again, at 139 baht for two jars of coffee its very cheap. The coffee itself reminds me of the Tesco Gold coffee I used to drink at home so it's not too bad.

Royal Project shop today, five huge fresh peaches in a box just 120 bht .
Sorry 180bht a box but they
DSCN2988.JPG
are delicious.
Anyone interested in the story behind the products available in this shop there is a book available in there called"From Poppies to peaches"it details how the late individual was instrumental in persuading the northern hill farmers to give up growing the lucrative opium poppies to produce the range of products sold by the Royal Project shops today.Very interesting read.
Ageing is a privilige denied to many .

Villa Market at UD town

Lasagna with BEEF
178 THB
taste was ok but the portion is far too small.
would have left my small dog hungry as well.
