If your going for the bike license ,you may as well get the car license at the same time , most people go out to the department on the Khon Kaen highway , it's easy ,vidmaster wrote:I'm on a retirement visa, so is it the Thai Licence I need from Smart Drive?
I only drive a Honda Wave motorbike does that make a difference as SD is for cars I believe

Re: driver license
When I renewed both my license's last year it was at AEK, so AFIK they do both.richardlg wrote:Am also renewing drivers licence tomorrow in Udon and also 70 this month. Last 5 year renewal was done under AEK Udon but I believe that's now only for motor bikes?
I saw on another forum that some places are now making you complete online multiple choice tests for renewals. Is that the case in Udon?
Also my tabian ban is from Jomtien but licence issued here in Udon, Can anyone tell me if that is likely to cause a problem?
Thanks
Driving to Udon in the morning to try for this renewal. Appreciate if anyone could answer my concerns.

In my posts all fees and requirements are the standard R&R but TIT and a brown envelope can make incredible changes YMMV.

Re: driver license
Do AEK actually issue new licenses now??
I thought that they only issued follow on replacements??
You will need the dreaded free approval letter from Udon Immigration (that usually costs 500 baht ) as well. You will need to sit through the 1 hour driving instruction video as well. They only run them at 8 a.m. & 1 p.m.

Re: driver license
The expiration date is 1 year (set in your home country) the validity for driving in Thailand is 90 days (set in Thailand)vidmaster wrote:My IDL is valid 1 year
So where do I get Thai Licence - Immigration & what papers & cash are required pls?
The best place to go is the DLT head office in Non Soong, about 5km south of Udon on the road to Khon Kaen
For 1 licence you need
Passport +copy
Medical certificate 100 Baht or less
Photos
Residents cart from immigration 500 Baht no receipt get it immediately or free and wait up to a week.
IDP ( probably with national licence) +copy
You will get a 2 year temporary license or licenses
For both car and bike just copy all the above, don't tell immigration that you are going to get 2 licences or they will charge double.
Cost about 100 per licence
Or Go to smart drive and pay 5,000 +

If you 'mouse click' on the pictures they are enlarged & can be enlarged again from there.
I believe that it is the first photo that STWW posted that you need to view as the second one deals with renewals also..

Re: driver license
Are you in the intranet section?
Re: driver license
I use Firefox browser will that make any difference to the dlt site I get?
Re: driver license
If you are asking me then I can't help you as I have not gone to the site suggested.
My comments were in relation to the pictures that STWW posted above.
I don't believe that using Firefox as a browser would give you a completely different view of a website than using another browser though.
I do know that Thai Immigration based their online 90 day reporting on Internet Explorer & other browsers had issues using it, but I think it is an 'all or nothing' scenario rather than something different!!

Re: driver license
You probably didn't get any forms because I didn't post any forms. I posted a picture, listing what you need, captured from the DLT website a while ago.vidmaster wrote:But I don't get the forms you posted

The DLT office has the form you will need to fill in. AFAIK it has never been available for download.
You will find life easier if you have someone along to translate, I had SWMBO
FWIW there are still a few errors on the website, it hasn't been updated for the 2 year validity of the temporary licence and there is still a valid/invalid mistake.
