Stupid Boy (oops wrong series  )

Baldrick, go and see General Sir Anthony Cecil Hogmanay Melchett VC KCB and see if he has a plan to dig out of this trench that we appear to have dug ourselves into 8-[

England up against it now but still may pick up a rain affected draw.

My earlier prediction of Broad being the England weak link is gaining momentum.
It is reported that these are his worst ever test figures. Not one wicket, maybe not even a chance given, for 142 of 35 overs.
Cracks in the pitch will be a telling tale today if they are able stay on the pitch.

Oh dear as I was writing between innings break, Stoneman is gone in the 2 over. England 1 -4

"Between 1877 and December 2016, a team scoring 400 and losing by an innings happened 4 times. England in with a shot of doing it 3 times between December 2016 and December 2017"

But who cares about boring historical facts. :-"

Rain leaking through the covers has delayed the start of the 5th and final day of the 3rd Test ;)
England 403 and 132-4
Australia 662-9 dec.

Surely it's time to promote Extras to bat higher up the order.

What can the Poms do to arrest the slide into the abyss.
Not much but go back to the drawing board and come up with a cunning plan, again.

Steve Smith as deserved MOM and when interviewd throughout the understatement of the year, that, they will celebrate hard tonight. I'm sure they will invite the vanquished to help celebrate and join in with the Australian's, polite and subtle, sarcastic taking the p.ss comedy routines around the bar.

5-0

For the latecomers just logging in,Australia have retained The Ashes after beating England by an innings and 41 runs in Perth......so congrats to them ! =D>
England were bowled out today for 218 with Malan making 54 and very little from the rest.

To be fair and all jokes aside, the poms will bounce back in Melbourne and will score well in both their innings.

The Beeb have been holding a vote-in on why The Ashes were lost.
Here is the current state of the polls..
crick.png
I went for the currently most popular item -
Poor form of senior players
Although, given the results so far it is also hard to argue with the second most popular
Australia are just better
However, over all I feel that if Cook, Root & Ali (with the bat) & Anderson & Broad (with the ball) had played to anything like previous form then it is highly unlikely that the score would be 3 zip...

Cook,Ali and Broad have been particularily poor,Root disappointing and Anderson not too bad imo.
For the next Test I'd drop the first three and bring in Curran,Crane and Foakes as wicket keeper/batsman.I'd have Bairstow opening with Stoneman and not be the wicket keeper on this occasion.
Give youth a chance....got nothing to lose now except pride.....but aint gonna happen. [-(

You missed out voting for "no Ben Stokes" Bob ;) With an extra 150 runs per game from him and 10 wickets for 200 the series would now be tied at 1-1. :pirate:

I would have voted oz quicks as they caused the poor batting form. Root cause etc.

Cook will retire at Sydney???

I think Australia are just better. But in two years time in England there is a better than fair chance that England will win. Just the way it seems to be going. Neither country appears to be able to produce enough cricketers who are competitive away from home conditions. Maybe it just goes to show how good the teams from the past, who were able to win away from home, were or how poor the losing home team was.

I think Capt Root will still have to face a very determined Aussie Capt and team. There will be no respite as Smith and co will definitely try and keep the foot on the throat and come gunning for a 5- blot whitewash.
Some journo's mainly of true british stock have said the interest will drop off for the series, this may well be the case for the balmy army, who now must be seriously considering why they wasted their annual leave on chasing the dream of victory. They won't have much coin left now after paying up their betting debts. Rest assured though there will be a huge interest from the aussie supporters for the remaining traditional test matches.
The pom's can actually look forward to an easier time once the 5 off 50 over games come around followed by a couple of hit and giggle 20 over games. I'm sure they will rush in the muscle and give Stokes a place.
Our Kiwi mates will also have the chance to win big when the Poms go over the ditch later in the season.
