LONDON – A Lion Air Boeing 737-800NG carrying 182 passengers and seven crew members overshot the runway while landing at Pontianak Airport in Indonesia’s West Kalimantan providance.

Flight JT714 had departed from Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport earlier today but due to heavy rain and poor visibility, it ended up overshooting the runway after landing.

This latest incident has come only months after the carrier suffered the terrible tragedy when one of its brand-new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff killing all 189 souls on board.

An investigation has now been launched into today’s incident and the airline is working with the authorities to move the damaged 737-800 to help minimize disruption to other operators at the airport.

This is the airline’s second incident in less than six months.

Theyre starting to get a reputation. Only ever used them once from Hat yai to Udon.

I had just travelled up from Yala , and thought this was the safest part of the journey !!

Not long ago I read some safety ratings for Asian airlines........if I remember correctly, Air Asia rated below Lion Air.
Despite the poorer ratings of budget airlines in Asia, I'd take a plane any day over a bus in Thailand.

Lion Air's name is shared by a few airlines, Lion Air Indonesia, Malindo, Thai Lion air, similarly Air Asia ( the safest lcc ) name is associated with various airlines within the Air Asia family, Air Asia, Air Asia X, Thai Air Asia, Air Asia India, Phil Air Asia (coming soon ), Vietjet Air Asia, ( coming soon) etc.. Each airlines operates under a different set of rules, regulations and standards in accordance with the country of origin. Therefore it s important to differentiate between the airlines.

EXCUSE ME Mr Monk sir, but if "The family" is willing to allow a company under its umbrella to operate substandard regulations (just because they can) then "The family" as a whole must be judged by the worst case scenario [-X [-X

BD, checked your link and there were sure a lot of incidents with Lion Air, but I will say the 6 Aug 2013 incident is the cows fault not Lion Air.

A large scorpion was seen crawling out of the overhead lockers on a recent Lion Air flight, causing passengers to flee the aircraft.

The scorpion was caught on camera during an Indonesian domestic flight #JT293 from Pekanbaru to Jakarta on 14 February.

The Boeing 737-800 didn’t divert and continued to Jakarta.
