How to get from airport to train station?

Post by Sugarfree » October 19, 2007, 3:37 am

Can anyone tell me what is the best way to go from Suvarnabhumi International Airport to Hualamphong Railway Station in Bangkok? I will be takeing this trip around 19.30, evening. If I take a taxi how much should I expect to pay?

I will be taking the night train (2d class) to Buriram. I read somewhere that in December it is not a good idea to take a sleeper with air-con because it would be to cold, fan and an open window would be better. Is this true?

If you get your ticket ahead of time, you can catch the train at the old airport,Don Muang! It is closer than going downtown! If you get a 2nd class a/c sleeper, you will be comfortable. The 1rst class is the cold one!

Here's a very good railway travel website.

http://www.seat61.com/Thailand.htm

It's all there, unlike the State Railways of Thailand website which is slow and riddled with broken links and dead ends.

To get from Suvarnabhumi International Airport to Hualamphong Railway Station you can get an airconditioned bus from the ground floor (one floor down from arrivals i think) direct to the station, cost about 150baht (i think it is a number 4, but the staff at the ticket office on the pavement should set you right). This is what i use. Runs about every 20 minutes or so. However, the trip takes up to an hour depending on traffic, so you would have a timing problem.
