I think I forgot to mention this in my original post. The income letter is only good for six months. Mine happens to be in May. They have one scheduled for July that won't do me any good nest year/ It is up to the U.S. Embassy if they want to do more then one per year. Last one I did was in Chaing Mai. All in all very pleasant. You sit an appointment But they have a machine that gives out numbers as you arrive. Your called by that number no matter the appointment time is.

Praise where it is due! I was in immigration yesterday, an older chap who was not in the best of health was applying for his visa, to cut a long story short - he simply did not have the required funds, after some discussion they had a word among themselves and stated "we will help you" & began the process, they could see he was in a frail state and took pity on the poor chap! Well done!

Pleased to find out today that a re-entry stamp now only takes up half a page in your passport.

Retirement Visa renewed in 15 minutes.

Only original paperwork taken. Copies were returned.

I noticed awhile back that someone had experienced the IO requesting that their wife be present with her house Blue book for their retirement (NOT marriage) visa. They did not request that of me. My Yellow book was sufficient.

Far cry from years gone by. Very quick and efficient. =D> =D> =D>

Yes Nong Khai added this to their requirements for a extension of stay (retirement) last year. I checked recently and it is also required this year. Luckily my wife will be in country at the due time.

I take it you do not live with your wife...? If this is the case and immigration found out they would probably not issue you with a visa. They do house checks for that very reason.

We do live together. She will be in Vietnam just before I am due to apply, for 2 weeks. Last year she was just back from overseas at the due date. Immigration are more than welcome to surprise visit me at home. It is , however, a struggle for them to get up from one desk and go to another, so a visit is unlikely. Presumably your wife does not travel overseas. Or even internally. I will be calling Immigration HQ shortly to ask about this ridiculous LONE WOLF office request.

Have you moved between the jurisdictions? I was under the belief that I could only use Nong Khai.

I assume you mean calling Immigration in Bangkok? Let us know how that goes. Thai Immigration offices have been making up their own rules with impunity for years. I understand that the island jurisdictions are quite infamous for pulling exorbitant fees out of their arses and Chiang Mai are a nest of pedants but also hear that Udon and Nong Khai offices are their 'country cousins' when it comes to making ad hoc demands on semi-residents and generally acting the goat.

Just finished getting my one-year retirement extension and multiple re-entry. 22 minutes from walking into the office until walking out. Great job!

I have a friend from UK staying with me at present. He has a 'retirement' visa valid for three months which expires on 28th Feb and wishes to extend his stay in Thailand until 09 March.

Today we went ti Udon Immigration to request a ten day visa extension. The immigration officer regretted that he was unable to assist with this ten day extension - however, he could give my friend an additional two months extension!! :D

All completed in less than thirty minutes. TIT.
