Re: Udon's Farang Nightlife
So last night I walked the 'circuit' and stopped in a few bars.... Sorry, can't remember any names.
I have to say it was better than this thread had led me to fear!
There were a reasonable number of customers around and the natives are certainly very friendly!
Seems to me though, much like Pattaya there are too many bars for the number of customers.
I bought a few ladydrinks and to my pleasant surprise it seems I was charged the same as mine...is this normal or did I strike lucky?

Re: Udon's Farang Nightlife
2nd night out and discovered the charms of City Lodge!
3 hours and way too much whisky later l was lucky enough to be escorted back to my hotel by one of the local tourist helpers!
The scene is certainly very compact, but it was a good night out, and I'm currently hoovering up one of Fuzzyken's breakfasts.

Re: Udon's Farang Nightlife
Trevor, I like sitting over at the Beer garden at UD Town, lots of hot girls to look at (out Fuzzy kens turn right and walk to the end of the road where the lights are and UD Town is the outdoor mall across the street to the right) , but I never been there alone so not sure if it would get boring I mean sitting with nobody to chat with...
Should check out the new Rock House, I will next week, Out Fuzzy Kens turn left cross over the street towards the mall walk past the cars entering the mall and its down on your right hand side about 150M

Re: Udon's Farang Nightlife
Thanks for the tips Nick...
I ate in UD Town last night.....to my surprise bumped into one of my Pattaya ex Teeraks who works there!
I don't know who was more shocked...her or me.
I walked past the Rock House this morning...may well drop by this evening.
Once again, many thanks for taking the time to help me out.

Re: Udon's Farang Nightlife
Will be arriving to Udon 2d week of May. Glad to see someone posting positive info on nightlife. From previous posts was wondering if Udon Thani was dead. Thanks Chubbytrevor for your posts, looks like there is plenty to do and see at night while I'm in the city. Looking forward for any more updates you might have or any specific bars to check out.
Re: Udon's Farang Nightlife
There is always plenty to see and do In Udon at night, it really does depend on your requirements or taste as to what areas you decide to go to. More and more the old favourites bars etc are being replaced by restaurants etc scattered around the town
True Soi Sampan and Nutty park have experienced ups and downs, notably because to exchange rates and people do leave and not return, some people in recent years have passed away and as we grow older many long term expats prefer less exciting or expensive venues.

Re: Udon's Farang Nightlife
Yesterday evening I went to a bar on the Nittayo road, on the corner opposite the post office and farang butcher to meet Peter for a beer, some of you will know him from the beach bar. The bar was packed, they had a couple of girls serving tables and they serve Thai food which I didn't eat but looked very nice. My bill for two big bottles of Leo and a sprite came to 180 baht, they do a deal there 3 big bottle for 199 baht but I'd already been out to UD town for a couple. The bar is well worth a visit if you want a quiet beer without being hassled by the ladies of the night.
The forest was shrinking daily but the trees kept voting for the axe as its handle was made of wood and they thought it was one of them.

Re: Udon's Farang Nightlife
The bars name is in ThaI so I'm afraid I don't know and is run by a Thai man, the only reason I mentioned Peter is because a few people know him and he's been very ill but is thankfully on the mend. The bar itself is on the corner where you do a left to go to JingJoes apartments though if that helps?

Re: Udon's Farang Nightlife
Quite possibly those were some of the Jesters MC on an away day from Pattaya. Some of them may look rough but they are big on shandies and latte's when on a road trip. Gotta stay relatively sober to keep up with replacing the bits that keep falling off their hogs.thrilled wrote:... Re: Udon's Farang Nightlife
OT was out and about yesterday early evening and I was surprised how busy it was it a lot of bars including Day and Night. In fact its the busiest I've experienced for years. Maybe Easter holidays has something to do with the influx of customers or is Udon recovering for bar owners.vincemunday wrote:Yesterday evening I went to a bar on the Nittayo road, on the corner opposite the post office and farang butcher to meet Peter for a beer, some of you will know him from the beach bar. Lots of the usual bar conversations amongst tipsy falangs which OT loves to hear.

Re: Udon's Farang Nightlife
no OT two peak periods for customers Christmas and songkran. customers will dry up again by early next month . then it's a long slow death for most places until the cool season starts. 3 months and the " transfer" season starts every bar goes up for sale, lucky ones will sell and another farang will try his hand at running a bar. the ones that don't sell will spend months paying out their own pocket to keep it going. anyway good to hear there's still life out there

Re: Udon's Farang Nightlife
The bar I was in last night was mainly full of locals, there was just a few Farang so I guess they will stay busy, we will see. There's at least one other 'farang' bar that's heavily frequented by Thai, perhaps that's the way forward?

Re: Udon's Farang Nightlife
Of course it is the way forward for anyone hoping to do business in Udon Thani. However, there will be the same, high 'retail churn' as businesses come and go broke with only the landlords happily recouping deposits from the preponderance of Thai owned and operated bars, restaurants, clubs and what have you that can't make it past 12 months. Beyond location, a well managed, funded bar or restaurant can beat the odds if it offers or fills some niche regardless of who the owner is as long as they don't try and cater only for foreigners.vincemunday wrote:The bar I was in last night was mainly full of locals, there was just a few Farang so I guess they will stay busy, we will see.
