How many matches left at home

One - the 2nd leg of the play off against Trang. The w/e of 7/8 Oct. Not sure which one.

On the local football front, I've adopted Nongbua Pitchaya FC as my team. And quite a few of the guys here in Nongbualamphu go to the games. I am hoping that UDFC get promoted as it will give us a couple of local derbys, Khon Kaen being promoted already, and we can have some away trips. At the moment the closest games for Nongbua are in Bangkok.
The home game against Trang is on Sunday 8th October, ko 1800 hours. What's required from Udon will rest upon the result of the first leg this Saturday 30th September in Trang. There'll probably be a link - watch the Facebook page for info.
Nongbua has done well, it seems, in their first season in division 1. Whilst it's Udon which has been knocking on the promotion door for several seasons(blowing it each time!), I'm still peeved that Udon managed to lose to Nongbua in last season's playoffs! Besides, I used to live there and it's the ex-wife's home.

Their colours look a bit red for my liking. Will stick with the neutral orange of Udon!!

I think it's actually pink, isn't it? In spite of these 'enlightened' days and for the Thai, it doesn't seem to have any particular significance or taboo (male, female, sports teams etc), not certain I could ever cheer a team in pink and buying a replica shirt is a certain no! Not that I'm keen on orange that much either, albeit the town's recognised colour. I've opted for purchase of the away Udon shirt (blue mainly) in recent years.

A good win for Nongbua tonight 3 - 0 in the Chang FA cup against Prachuap. Into the last 8.
On Sunday, Nongbua vs Ubon UMT ( Thai premier league team) in the last 16 of the Toyota league cup.

I don't wish to drift too much off topic here, but Nongbua must surely be satisfied with their season to date, irrespective of further progress or not in Cups. I have to be honest and am probably contradicting myself a little here, but whilst I admire fans who support a local team rather than just doing the easy thing and latching on to a 'big boy', I do enjoy seeing any local rivals severely beaten, so that includes Nongbua, Nong Khai(when they have a team) and now included Khon Kaen!
But it's interesting to know how Nongbua put a team together. I doubt Nongbua has a Svein, who is excellent at providing information about Udon FC in English( some times very difficult to establish what's going on) but any comment on how the current squad was assembled, players came from etc? What sort of crowds are you getting? It seemed bused-in schoolkids formed a large element last time I was there.
I'm not certain, but I understood the owners of the two Clubs were pals(I believe Udon is actually in the wife's name now), connection through construction and politics, but I may be wrong. But there was certainly rivalry when the Clubs met last season.
Nongbua must have become more professional because, intentional or not, the way Udon and its' fans was messed about on arrangements for obtaining tickets for the game in Nongbua, presumably fearing an orange invasion, was pretty sad and pathetic. As it turned out, Nongbua had the last laugh.

Nongbua is owned by the same guy who owns a private school and college here. Pitchaya Bandit.
I believe he also owns several schools / collages in and around Udon.
There is a football academy attached to the school. They have U13, U15 and U19 teams, who seem to do well.
Also they are building a new stadium and sports complex next to the school. It doesn't look like it will be ready for next season.
This season the crowds have been from about 1300 to 2500.
Info from the club in English is non existent.
In this regard Udon are one of the best in Thailand.
I can't comment about the Nongbua - Udon game last year, as I wasn't there.
The set up at the stadium is relaxed and not geared to massive crowds.
They had to step up a level this season, it took them a while to adapt, but they are doing OK now.
They have their contingent of 5 foreign players.
3 Brazilians, 1 from Korea and 1 from Japan.
Looking forward to playing Udon next season.

Well, I didn't think much of Udon's showing. Not much shown in attack, lots of 'bits and pieces' rather than real flow and 'building' and conceding three, which is almost unheard of! Whilst accepting there's another team on the pitch, Trang didn't look that frightening. Two away goals which MAY prove important. Yup, all to play for next week. Please don't 'blow it' yet again, Udon. [-o<
Oh, the penalty for handball - very poor decision, in my view, The ball is blasted at the Udon player from a few feet, he's turned his head away, no movement of hand as far as I can see, the linesman in the best position doesn't signal and the ref awards from behind the play. There's a tendency in Thailand for refs to award a foul every time the ball comes into contact with the hand, ignoring whether there was any intent.

I have to agree. Having seen it on the highlights, the penalty should never have been given.
But Udon do much better at home, so they should be OK.
On the Nongbua Pitchaya front, last night Nongbua lost on penalties to Ubon UMT in the last 16 of the Toyota league cup.
An entertaining game, Nongbua had most of the play, and a hat-full of chances but just couldn't score.
But they are in the last 8 of the Chang FA cup.

I've witnessed plenty of games when a team has had the better of it, plenty of chances, but end up losing, that little bit of luck deserting them. At least Nongbua has another Cup opportunity for their fans.
I did have another look at the penalty incident in the Trang v Udon game. The Udon player has actually linked his hands behind his back! This is going to sound strange, but I actually hope it was an incompetent referee rather than, this being Thailand, more than that! :-"
Udon, as I understand it, was fined by the League this year for supposedly making false accusations against a referee requesting money before a game. The story is that the League reached the decision because the involved Udon representative failed to attend and provide evidence at a meeting. Udon said he was out of the country at the time. Subsequently, through technology, what I believe is the text of what was said in a 'phone call from the match referee to Udon before the game appeared on Facebook. The League, apparently, has decided not to re-open the case. So in football too, difficult matters can be conveniently swept under the carpet. Udon had refused to pay the ref, Udon lost the game (to two fair goals) but the referee, if not in goal incidents, was felt to favour the opposition largely in general play, to the extent there was obvious end of match protest by Udon.
Rant over. I just find it very frustrating that there are many questions which never get properly answered in Thai football.

I read about that incident also. Thai society is riddled with corruption, and unfortunately Thai football is a microcosm of that. TIT.

It's a great shame, particularly for those fans who hope success may ONLY be down to how good a team plays. Unfortunately too, there's an element that believes corruption is normal, to be accepted/tolerated.

Actually, I'm STILL trying to figure how if a 'keeper was sent off for a foul in the penalty area, why a penalty didn't follow. :?

I am sure one of our regular supporters will confirm but, I believe I just witnessed UDFC get promoted (watched from the UK with no commentary so an educated guess!!.). A 1-0 victory sending them up on away goals.

The last 10 minutes were compelling viewing and I think the ref was pretty pleased to blow for time before someone got killed!!
