Well if people don't know to much about dogs, read up on this breed.NOT recommended if you don't know what you're in for.Fila Brasilero IS voted one of top ten best guard dogs.."not many people can handle such power and no backyard parties with this dog walking around either!!" ...

I've had dogs all my life and when i say the above i have to admit that i've never even been close to a Fila B..But Dobbermans/Rottweilers and German Shepard..

So think FIRST before buying one..Maybe someting to really think about...Excellent Guarddog...but can you handel a beast like this???

My two Swedish Krona worth...Have a good day everyone..Dui at Nok's Restaurant

Agree with you there, they are a fine dog for protection and know people here with them but you must be the master of the dog as it will always want to be the alpha.i think when fully grown the are bigger than a Thai man.also what if you get one and it eats the robber, how do you stand with law?

Yes I fully agree with you Dui these dogs are NOT for everyone and certainly not for anyone that is feint hearted,, they are a proper guard dog and do their job extremely well, where as some other large breeds can back down if hurt or in a situation these will not and will protect their family to the death...

We screen homes for suitability and as people on this forum that know me will confirm I have refused pups and given deposits back to buyers if I think their new homes will not be suitable... I also ask people to read up on them 1st as you can see in all my previous adverts: http://www.udonmap.com/udonthaniforum/g ... 37263.html

Despite their guarding skills they also make a very good family dog, they devote their whole life to what they consider as ' their family ' they just do not like strangers but that is the whole idea of having a guard dog

We love ours so much and they are definitely ' our family '

Sorry for taking this topic a little ' off thread ' but we are talking about expat security and how to avoid being a victim like what happened to the poor guy which this topic is about...

I think these days it is very wise for any expat to have some sort of security in place...

How much will you be charging for the Fila pups? We have an old Thai dog just now that sleeps most of the day so looking for a bit of decent security and a nice dog at the same time

Self defense is not a crime. If they attack you, do what you need to do to survive. I'd rather take my chances being tried in court than being cremated. If they flee, let 'em go and secure your home against the next attack.

We have fortress doors on our home, an alarm system, and nice dogs to welcome any unknown guest(s).

But always remember: if you have something that others want, all the deterrents in the world won't stop them from trying.

missus drags me outside to look at some new scratch marks on our new concrete footpath around the house..took me ten minutes to fiqure out that someone had dragged one of our concrete outdoor chairs, along the path to the bedroom window, and then back again to the boy window...missus and boy tell me after that they heard noises outside last night ( week ago now ),

so someone had been either trying to look in our darkened rooms, or trying the windows...there was no sign of leverage in the aluminium windows, and why the chair was not lifted, and noise made to wake most of us, leads me to think kids or a drunk/ wasted dude, either trying to spy on the missus, or break in...we are way out in a small village, but there is alot of drunks and alcohol, and poor people...we are not rich, but just a new house suggests things to some minds...we will have to beef up security just for ease of mind....

Deffo big enough land to be OK for a pack of guard dogs.

And even big enough to dig a MOAT around it and fill it with saltwater crocs.

My wife says the robbers were so drunk they slipped up and said each other's names.

BET the cops won't do a thing though as they have not been PAID.

Heard tonight that the local authorities may have a strong lead in this case.

We'll see. Sometimes they do fast work.

It is a sad situation when you have to live like that. A person should feel safe at home, unfortunately Thailand is changing.

Whilst we were in the process of acquiring a weapon (gun) one of the police told us (through the wife) to make sure that she was the one holding the smoking gun when they arrive!
Hit 'em hard, hit 'em fast, hit 'em with the one they don't expect, and just keep hitting.
