A thought has been planted in the minds of voters, which they will not forget.

On the downside she's too friendly with the Shinawatra crowd.
You mean the ones that brought medical, affordable loans for farmers, Democracy and happy people to the country?
Loans which were paid back with interest, mass demonstrations, shootings, bribery at the elections. Maybe you were on another planet at that time.

Ignorance is not always bliss, do so real research. Everything is controlled and planned. The wealthy elite control the government, military and any other institution in Thailand. Thaksin went against the grain and rocked their boat. He did many good things for the common people as well as for himself like all politicians, especially the Thai politicians. The majority of the country was happy with their government and had no reason to protest, it was the elite behind all the problems because they could not get rid of Thaksin in a fair election so the protests were organized and the elite side was allowed to do what they wanted by the military and police. Eventually it became chaos as was planned. In steps the heros with the guns and they have control again. Do not buy into the propaganda that is being spread by the rich. All they care about is retaining their wealth and power and will do anything to keep it, anything.

It is about competing Sino-Thai elites. If one looks at the members of Parliament over the past 20 years or so, you will see Chinese, not Thai, faces in government.

Really, you think a handful of rich chinese Thais should live like masters while the rest of the Thai people scratch for an existence. You should try living like an average Thai for awhile.

You have a lot to learn about Thailand if you can learn. You certainly will not learn from me so I will leave you to it.

In the NYT an opinion writer observes how "... the extraordinary developments of last week — actually, of the last months — reveal that Thailand is a military dictatorship like no other. It is a military dictatorship under royal command."

I guess those who show even a modicum of interest in Thai affairs will be "unsurprised" by this development.
An opposition political party that attempted to nominate a member of the royal family as prime minister in Thailand’s upcoming election has been dissolved with immediate effect and its executives given a 10-year ban from politics.

In a ruling announced on Thursday afternoon, Thailand’s constitutional court declared that Thai Raksa Chart, a political party formed only in October last year, had violated the constitution by putting forward Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya Sirivadhana Barnavadi, the older sister of an individual, to be its chosen candidate for prime minister.

Hopefully, some semblance of democracy will still shine through in what is likely to be a very flawed election. :(

A novel concept but it will be difficult for democracy to take hold since the Senate will be full of military men.

There is an excellent article in the Economist online, relating to the approaching farce.

Teacher! Teacher! Can you tell me when Muslim became a nationality?

Meanwhile, back in fair Albion, "Are you a bishop, a bankrupt, a police officer, soldier, judge or civil servant? Sorry, you can't become an MP. Nor can children, or anyone who is not a citizen of Britain or the Republic of Ireland, or a Commonwealth citizen with indefinite leave to remain."

Nae wurries Jimmy, despite your sh!te grades in geography and ignorance of British civil law and me not knowing you from Adam, I'll still sign your nomination papers. Just let uz know where you're pitching your tent, eh?

Any word on how the exit polls are looking.

Bangkok post seems to be offline so can't read the updates.
