Until the water runs out! ... Keep an eye on what is in the tank as you don't want to get an air lock in the pump if the tank runs dry!

Water pressure

I was taking a shower at the home of a friend in Bangkok, they had an orange 55 gallon trashcan in the shower they used when the water pressure was too low for the shower head to work. They tended to leave the shower head in the tank with the faucet on so that when the pressure returned the tank would fill up again.

So one evening I'm taking a shower using a dipper, and I do a double-take because it looks like the water level is actually dropping. Sure enough, water is being sucked out of the water tank through the showerhead.

So remember boys and girls, always make sure there's an anti-siphon valve somewhere on your piping. It's something most thai plumbing jobs don't include.

Good advice.
Hope they don't start importing the "garden hose connected poison sprays" that are prevelent in many other countries and why they have non-retun valves fitted there compulsory on external taps.
Sadly it will not protect you unless everyone does it in this particular instance.

Water pressure

Hi,
Depends where you live. I am just inside the ring road near the electric station. They had trouble with the mains supply pipe for about a week now. The problem was between our place and the airport. We have a 2000L tank. With the wife and two kids, 20 and 13 years old, if the water goes off, we have at least 3 days of normal use before that empties. If we take it easy we have about 5 days. It seem that when working on this fault they have the water turned on by 2000Hrs and it is of in the morning by 0700Hr. Like that today, still off now. Wife was wanting to install a second tank, IMO this is not necessary as we have onty had to get the tank refilled, at a cost of 200B, once, in the 7 years we have lived here. We have also got 2 big urns, now, that we put rainwater in from the roof via the gutters. Or fill up when mains are on. So never had a problem. Like the boy scouts say, "be prepared".
