Looks like an 'Indian Minor', sh-tfull aggressive birds, creating havoc in Aus with native birdlife.

As Coxo says they are an agrresive pest and will chase all other birdlife away from your garden, if you see one kill it and all it's relatives. Sorry I should be PC just eradicate the poor thing.
Good photo though!!

We've been providing meal worms to a pair of white rump shamas for a few years. Although they haven't nested this year in our yard, in the past two years they've raised more than 40 chicks in nesting boxes that we put up around the yard.
In the past few weeks we've had a male/femAle pair of ??finches??show up each day as well......helping themselves to the free handouts. The male had a darker coat than the female. Any chance anyone out there knows the make/model of bird?
The bird standing on the bowl is the unknown. The other is the shama.

The unknown bird looks like a female flycatcher, could be one of several species. With a couple species, the male will be blue on the top and back of it's head, back, and tail. These are really difficult to ID.

Thanks.....that's the bird. The female in the photo doesn't sport the gun-blue topside that her mate has. They've gotten quite used to me sitting within a few feet of the bowl......I guess no matter a bird or a human, when it comes to free handouts, we're all the same!
Thanks again for the ID.

Some time back I had posted that we have a pair of shamas around the house. We have 2 1/2 rai with a lot of trees. I have not found their nest but things must have worked out just fine because we now have a couple of young shamas flitting around. In the past few years here, I have noticed that we now have many different varieties of birds around the house. Maybe that's because the aggravating myna birds have gone away. We also have a few fantails. They are entertaining and very active birds.parrot wrote:We've been providing meal worms to a pair of white rump shamas for a few years. glalt, the previous two years we had good success by tying a shoe-size box on our carport pillar and cutting out a 3"ish square hole in the box. Our shamas raised over 40 chicks during that time. This year, the male is trying desperately to mate with the female.....but she doesn't seem interested. She might be one of the young.....or she might just not be in the mood. In the meantime, he keeps belting out the tunes to try to seduce her.

I'm a birder, I've been birding in SE Asia for eight years now. I've never met another birder in Udon Thani. If anyone out there is interested in birding, I'd like to talk to you. I'm familiar with most of the National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries in NE. Thailand, and would be interested in company on birding trips.

Not quite qualifying as WFBs owing to the presence of tattoos, which are a major turnoff in this individual's view. But, each to his/her own.

Laa Yaa, No tattoos on these WFB's as far as OT can see. This type like playing in the mud so they're dirty WFB's. A quick bird bath and they will be fine.Laan Yaa Mo wrote:Not quite qualifying as WFBs owing to the presence of tattoos, which are a major turnoff in this individual's view. But, each to his/her own.

I think they are Aves lesbians. I'm sorry to tell you but they won't be interested in you old-timer.
You do, however, seem to have a good eye for the birds.
