In Laos some videos have the singers drinking a well-known beer.

it just demonstrates the power that social media has to elicit a serious reaction from the government... Anything considered to be morally, socially, politically or criminally embarrassing that goes "viral" immediately brings down the sword of Damocles...

So what happens if you go to a friends birthday party and someone takes pictures of you enjoying a beer which then appear on Facebook ?
There might be a few bottles of beer on the table in front of you that clearly show the brand name.
Is this an offence punishable by up to 1 year in jail or up to 500,000 baht fine or both ? :-k

frankly, I doubt if any member of the forum posted such photos that they get any attention at all.. The movie stars and celebrities that posted these pictures likely are "followed" on twitter or Facebook by tens of thousands of young (and older) Thais.. When things go "viral" they get attention...

I just thought it to be a bit of over kill. You could hardly take a photo or video of a bike week party with a beer or something in it. I've noticed over a few years now Chang was the only beer being offered at events.

You right about the celebs. But it does mention the fine for individuals as well. I also noticed Hennesy commercials being blocked some would slip through once in awhile. Oddly enough made me want to go get some

Perhaps, if they could use a smart phone(or own one) and have a social media account??? Plenty of stars would need to align there.

I'm sufficiently rebellious to now have to drink some Archa next time I'm in the capital of the universe and also in the place an hour south. I'll have to bung it on Facebook.

I guess those big Leo beer billboards along the highway, with the kitty eyes staring at you and 'LEO' in the lower corner aren't enticing anyone to drink alcohol...................

well the thing is that their "actors" I use the term loosely  , but obviously they were paid to do it. so why are they being arrested ? should it not be the companies being hassled ? . it's like a bar being open after hours, police come along and arrest the girl serving beer but letting the bar owner off

Gentlemen, I've just read the relevant law. There's some ambiguity concerning whether photos of alcoholic beverages or photos of the beverages themselves are permitted. As you know, while we don't like to censor material on Udon Map, we also have no interest in inviting the scrutiny of governmental authorities. Accordingly, photos and videos of alcoholic beverages have been removed from this thread; and I ask that you refrain from posting any additional ones.

So therefore all those tourists who pose with drinks and post on Facebook, if seen here can get fined and arrested, has this government gone mad, or are they simply delusional.

Government is not the same thing as a Dictatorship.
