Cant actually remember the last time I left the house with the "intention" of shopping in Big C ? Probably 6 or 7 years ago. Every visit I have made since then (dozens) has been because I just happened to be in the vicinity and It made sense to nip in for a few items.
Not too sure why you would take a "bag for life" shopping bag with you when you didnt plan on going shopping in the first place.
Far more likely to now say "b*gger it" what I would have purchased in Big C will have to wait till my next planned shopping trip to my usual outlets

Yeah I suppose it's difficult to just throw a "bag for life" in the car or under the bike seat and leave it there.
There must be plenty of other shops outside the Big C cash registers that still provide bags.

Not difficult Barney until you take the bag into the house and wife puts it away somewhere and guess what your back at big c or makro and no bag again. Same goes for freezer bags or boxes good if you remember to put back in the car.

Was told on monday at the checkouts , to bring our own bags next week as the freebies will be stopped .
Which is all well and good , we have millions of them , but i started thinking about the check out process itself .
I take it that we the customer will now be responsible to pack our own bags , again no problem , we wont get the milk crushing the bread ect , thats good no ? Well no not really , because some of the people i see in there can hardly raise a pulse let alone pack a bag , and certainly not as quick as the checkout girls do .
So imagine the lines at the checkouts in future , especially at weekends .
Sure as eggs is eggs , Big C will not be opening more checkouts , which would involve more staff , and obviously more cost to them .

I have always felt uneasy about taking in my own "Bag for Life", I remember it being the norm in the 60s' when my Mum went shopping, you had to leave your bag behind the counter at some shops, presumably to avoid shoplifting. To this day I dislike carrying my own bag in to a shop.

If ever there was an argument to AVOID doing ANY shopping over a Udon Thani weekend, your point about the gridlock that will happen at Big C check outs this coming weekend is well taken. Then there will be the extra time taken for the shell-shocked locals to hand-ball their purchases from the cart into cars and pickups so parking should will be a more time-consuming effort.

In the other 'Big C is shrinking' thread, I commented that two branches of Tesco-Lotus were similarly plastic bag challenged yesterday but luckily, the stalwarts at 7-eleven are still handing them out... plus plastic straws that never get used.

Since when has any official information in Thailand ever been reliable?

The only place i know of that has permanently stopped bags is the royal project shop. But it is coming, eventually.
