Expat Activities While Visiting Udon
Expat Activities While Visiting Udon
I'll be visiting Udon in late December/early January. Where is a good place to meet and chat with local expats? I'm hoping to have a chat about what it's like living in Udon because I'm in the process of considering a relocation.

Hi Greg I would suggest you hang out at Papa farangs . Have a few meals and drinks there. Chat to the ones that go there about how they live in udon

T Bar usually has some long term expats in attendance.
Alternatively, Tuesday evening is Pool League evening. Lots of long term expats playing pool in various bars.

I'd give Papa Farang's a miss.

Why is it stupid? It's my opinion. Do you think everyone who doesn't share your favorite restaurants, music, drinks, breakfast options, kickball team, etc, is stupid? What a stupid thing to say. The groupthink is strong among a certain demographic here. Vapid lockstep tribalism.

Because it's just plain ignorant to knock another business. Didn't your mother teach you, if you have nothing good to say then say nothing, Or are you just white trailer trash....Giggle wrote: ↑December 13, 2018, 11:08 pmWhy is it stupid? It's my opinion. In my opinion its best to discover it yourself , drinking in bars and hearing a load of information is'nt the best way to gauge how living there will be, my suggestion would be to spend a week or so getting yourself a routine and see what you enjoy and what you dont.
Think about which hobbies you will do , your exercise regime, what you will eat , where you can source it , get the udon map magazine and map and jump on the bike and go explore.

Good advice here .SJP17 wrote: ↑December 14, 2018, 4:04 pmIn my opinion its best to discover it yourself , drinking in bars and hearing a load of information is'nt the best way to gauge how living there will be, my suggestion would be to spend a week or so getting yourself a routine and see what you enjoy and what you dont.

I might add , it may take more than one visit to decide is it for you , cuz it sure aint for everyone .
Secondly think about your future and how much Udons likely to change in the future .Its pretty much unrecognisable from what it was like when i first came years ago . Not the sleepy backwater it once was. Thirdly , think about what you will miss from home if anything , and will you be able to live without it .
Above all will you feel comfortable here . You will need to open your mind a lot .
Theres not a day goes by here with out a what the F#ck moment , but i find it entertaining watching the locals and their little ways .
