Post by magpie73 » June 6, 2019, 6:15 pm

IF NOTHING ELSE GIVE THESE MEN THAT SURVIVED THE D DAY LANDINGS I THOUGHT AS THEY CAME FROM FAR AND WIDE TO GIVE USE THE FREEDOM WE ARE AFORDED TODAY AND TO THE HEROES THAT NEVER RETURNED TO THERE HOME COUNTRIES I SALUTE YOU BRAVE AND VALANT MEN AND WOMEN THANK YOU FOR MY FREEDOM

THEY WENT WITH SONGS TO THE BATTLE,THEY WERE YOUNG
STRAIGHT OF LIMB,TRUE OF EYE,STEADY AND AGLOW.
THEY WERE STAUNCH TI=O THE END AGAINST ODDS UNCOUNTED,
THEY FELL WITH FACES TO THE FOE.

THEY SHALL NOT GROW OLD,AS WE ARE LEFT TO GROW OLD
AGE SHALL NOT WEARY THEM,NOR YEARS CONDEMN
AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.

About 3000 Australians were involved in D-Day and the Normandy landings, with Australia's main contribution offering support in the air.
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.

I was living in Southsea back in 94 when they had the 50th anniversary . Many more veterans in those days obviously . They did the fallen and surviving heroes proud then , but i think it was surpassed by this years commemorations .
BRAVE MEN INDEED .

I didn't realize that among all the WWII allies, there were more Russian and Chinese killed during the global hostilities than all other allied nations combined. But Putin and Xi Jinping weren't invited.

Funny to see the German flag up there, fluttering away along with the rest.

Oh yes, and frau Merkel of course.
