Just an observation

Post by Drunk Monkey » August 9, 2019, 8:46 am

Just a few abservations ref UM in its current format.

I fondly remember the days when UM.was a great source of both information ,enjoyment.and an excellent advertising medium for sponsors ... but over recent months it has morphed into.something way different ..
Take a look.and the general forum.its alive with political.threads many of which are now old and tedious .. they dominant the home page and serve little purpose other than instigate **** fights over differing political views.
I know members will just say dont click.on them. I DONT but isnt it possible to consolidate all these simikar threads into.just one WORLD POLITICS thread so we can keep Brexit .. Trump etc on this single thread ..
simarly lry with the numerous immigration threads .. a single tread IMMIGRATION NEWS one could suffice .
For those members who need their daily dose ..its still there
IMO a tidy up.n streamlining of the home page REGARDING MUTIPLE SIMILAR THREADS may encourage more to post rather than logging in n just seeing 6 7 plus of the same political brain twisting threads n logging out again immediately . I post less as dont hang about when its all politics ..immo .. etc etc

Only my opinion .. i may be wrong

I agree wholeheartedly. Beyond a cleanup, the forum needs some 24/7 style administration and moderation if only to move misplaced posts to the right categories. Also, adhering to the sub-forum content requirements needs to enforced. For example, if regular users insist on placing Yaxley-Lennon/Trump/Brexit related stuff in the Udon Thani ONLY forum and get away with it, there will be no overall improvement.

A few months back, admin created a specific 'Politics - Other Than Thailand' forum, replete with 'Trump' and 'Brexit' categories specifically to channel those sort of new threads away from just about every other category. That new forum for the most part seems to have been ignored. Threads on Australian federal politics have subsequently been created in 'General Debates' that weren't moved. Maybe admin doesn't see Aussie politics as being 'real' politics?

Without the political threads...the activity on this forum would be poor. Seems like there is not much interest in other topics. Fees being charged to advertisers, I assume, are based on the number of hits to this site.

The poltical.threads would still.all be there just consolidated into.a single thread.. and it seems its always the same members on them.so doubt it would effect overall.activity ..more so it may bring on new members and /or exsisting members staying n posting again .

Only my op.

Do we really want to go back to the days of Scunthorpe United (the team of iron) dominating all the threads?

At least they're a more topical team than LUFC.

Meanwhile, don't forget Fort William's nascent resurgence.

Got me thinking there DM. Even LS appreciates that followers of his meme stream threads appeals to a rather eclectic... OK really, really tiny band of followers. So he agreed with admin/mods to have his own 'trigger' thread where one can stroll around, gazing at the copy/paste memes, browsing the tropes and get all riled up without sucking the atmosphere out of the forum.

Now if certain other members, namely those that just can't help themselves from opening and reading every single utterance from LS (even the old ones he has only commented on) before opening their own bomb doors and unloading their own, rather unique style of petty name-calling and generally piss-weak invective could ask the admin/mods for their own 'trigger' threads, then maybe we can keep everyone reasonably happy? Might keep the blood pressure of some members in check too.

Just did a count of the threads on the main current page.

There are 7 out of 32 which are constantly displayed every day.

It is the same 5-7 posters who constantly keep these active.

As DM suggested give them 1 or 2 threads relating to American politics & leave the rest of the threads to the rest of the members to post about Udon & helpful information the way it used to be.

It really must put off sponsors who might want to post about special offers they have to see there post disappear the next day from the front page.

Or better still take the 7 threads off the current Topics page & let them post about it and argue & insult each other between themselves

Some of the same Cry Babies of Siam (you know who you are) crying about the same sh*t that you've already proven through your own participation is bullsh*t.

Don't read what doesn't interest you.

The forum is broken down into sections. Don't read the main page if it hurts your feelings. Go to the Forum link and to the sections that interest you.
