Isaan red clothes...

Post by fhorst » November 24, 2019, 11:20 pm

Hi guys,

Am I the only one?
My clothes get Isaan red..

It looks like my sweat (salt?) is having a reaction with Isaan red clay dust.

When I was regular back in Holland, my laundry machine at home could clean it after a few times (hot 90 degrees wash and European cleaning materials.)

In Thailand nothing seems to work.
I do need to say, cotton is affected, polyester fabric not.

Polyester shirts are too hot for me.
So, most of my daily shirts and shorts have the Isaan red stains.
Not a problem on the farm, but going to the city....

It would be nice to have the clothes not only clean but also without the red colour.

Tips please!!

As I can not find location for household tips...
General topic it is :-)

If it can't be done, it never happened..

Avoid rolling around in Isaan red dust as much as possible.

I am not sure why you are having this problem. None of my clothes seemed to get red even after jogging on the red ground and dust of Korat for a few weeks ten years or so ago.
You only pass through this life once, you don't come back for an encore.

I'm guessing someone added a red piece of clothing to a load of white wash. Been there done that

One of the rare disadvantages of living in a land that reminds one of the "good old days" (40 - 50 yrs behind the hurly burly you were used to) is that on occasions little things catch you out .... no, not all clothes in Thailand use colour fast dyes like they now do in the West

I have had the same problem over the years, l put it down to the water the clothes are washed in, the red (brown) dirt staining whether from the Well or Village is evident in all our tanks and pipes.
Whole house Filter definitely helps. I don't buy white clothing any more.

Lol :D

Yes, an other victim.....

My wife keeps telling me to buy dark clothes...
But that's crazy hot!
(And I like light colour (

No people, not a problem of a red sock.
Or jeans or....

Really Isaan red clay colour.
What I did not yet posted is that indeed have a deep water bore.
It is filtered, a lot!

My 3 filters are
80 (177 micron)
200 (74 micron and
400 mesh (37 micron)

The 5 inch 177 micron is to filter small rocks,
It is prior to the house pump.

It have been a learning curve, finding what mesh filters the most and adjust the size to this.

The 20 inch 74 sand and clay dust
The 10 inch 37 dust.

I clean them every 3 or 4 weeks.
The 20 inch starts getting restrictive after that time.

Yesterday I've added an additional filter, hollow fiber UF membrane, should be 0.01 micron.

I've used a small one, really effective.
But to restrictive for whole household.

Laundry machine takes for ever, filling the bathtub same same.
Later I used it only at the sink.

This is the 3000 L/h model, it have 1 inch in and outlet.
I'm sure it can't filter 3000L/h but it can keep my water pressure at reasonable level.
(Above 7L/minute) (107usd)
https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/BSMbAwFI
It's a good thing it cleans automatically.
(Whenever we use water for the garden, it's flushing the membrane)

I sure hope this big boy will filter out all the red clay!

If not only my clothes, the red residue in toilet and bathtub keeps my wife occupied :-)

For drinking water there is a small tap 4 stage filter with carbon.

Dark clothes in the Thai sun...
Polyester fabric...

I guess I'm to short time (2 yrs) in Thailand to do this.
Maybe after 5 years... lol.
If it can't be done, it never happened..

Hi fhorst
Men swapping laundry secrets! What next!
I'm Australia, we'd soak the garment for a couple of days in a product that used to be called Napisan, but I think the name's been changed to broaden market acceptance - originally for washed nappies (diapers) but they don't get much use these days!
I just checked online and their website is vanishstains.com.au

Is it a "front loader" maaka?

We got one about 15 yrs ago and even on the "heavy soiled" setting which took over an hour stuff was still not clean.
Gave up on it few years back and got an old fashioned top loader and the improvement was immediate
