Udon Traffic

Post by NongKhaiLee » December 2, 2019, 1:29 pm

The wife and I came into Udon from NongKhai last night, which was a Sunday, at about 5pm. We shopped around a bit on the ring road and then tried to head across town to Central. We got stuck in some of the worst traffic I have ever seen. I lost count of how many times the traffic lights cycled before we ever made it through them, and the traffic circles were just as bad. Sometimes we just aborted even trying to get through them and took to the alleys.
We have been here for ten years plus but I have never seen anything like what we saw last night...is this the new normal for Udon on Sunday nights? (or even every night?)

ahhh....I totally missed it! Looks like no more Udon trips for a while. I'm a bit shy about large crowds (and plugged up streets)

Not 100% on topic (more of a tangent), as i've heard nothing yet can we assume that the NK powers that be, have finally come to their senses and realised that having 100s of loonies running round the NK streets and stopping xmas shoppers visiting at the busiest time of year is not good for local business and having engaged their brain and rescheduled their fun runs this year [-o<

Apparently a lot of people are going to Thongsemuang to protest?

Protest what? Non-existent traffic management and poor planning?

Well for years certain times of the day need planning to circumnavigate the chaos caused by the traffic in Udon . When I taught at Rachinutitt, I used to leave my house at 07009, to ensure a fairly easy drive to the school , still took me 30+ minutes.
Friday afternoon is a no no for travelling through Udon, Not only schools shutting but all those who stay ion rooms go home for the weekend as well, coupled with the almost complete lack of road sense so enjoyed by the local population, that time of day plus this predicted protest/rally etc, traffic mayhem and chaos will ensue, going around it is okay.

With this amount of public knowledge of the pending event, I am surprised if the authorities don't pull a "45" and send in the Feds to suppress this anti-Constitutional rabble.

I've a feeling this one is country wide so it will be a toughie to prevent this one happening, I just hope it stays peaceful because I seem to remember buildings got burnt last time?
