renew drivers license

Post by Rono » February 18, 2021, 2:32 pm

So today, after 12.00 I went to Dutsadi road to renew 5 years drivers license. Aek Udon and Central are closed, because of covid. !@#@$!# !! There they told me , not possible anymore. Have to go Nung Soon. But first have to go hospital for document you are healthy enough to drive. And then together with other copies, drivers license, old license, copy passport with copy year visa and proof of address to Nung Soon. Now I wonder what kind of check up that may be at the Hospital. I asked the very friendly, and helpful lady, if they know what to check for at the hospital, if I said: "it is for renewing drivers license" "Well, they are supposed to know" was the answer. Anybody done this already or know already what they check for and those additional costs? Will not be "free of charge" I think

Here in Ban Dung we pay 50 Baht at a local clinic. No doctor, the receptionist just prints it out, stamps and takes out the back for signing. All of 10 minutes!
There is an informative thread already running on this subject here.

This is the new rule and effect from 19th (tomorrow). You must have a document, which is made using instructions from DLT. Old medical checks will not all be valid. There is a form to fill. Applicant fill 1st part and then doctor 2nd part.

Everything which has been valid today, is not valid tomorrow.

Where do you get this new "medical form'' ?
Signed by Hospital or Doctor?
Anyone have a copy? .....or is it a trip to DLT Nong Suun and then to a Doctor then back to DLT??

Indeed i was wondering the same .. as my renewal is a couple of months away .. it seems the new medical form criteria starts today but as usual limited information as to how these forms can be obtained which is frustrating.

you see Like eagle posted: This is the new rule! The lady did say clearly : " not same. not possible anymore. have to go to rongpayabaan (hospital!) for document! ! But since it starts the 19th, I do not think anyone already can post a copy or more direct information.

I reckon you will need to be the forum guinea pig on this one. I foresee one trip to Nong Sung to find out what's needed first. They may even have the medical form template (but I doubt it). Despite their recent media release with the imminent requirement for a 2-part form and the need for it to have certain level of medical practitioners approval, their own website only references the old,' five diseases' medical certificate that one could get from any doctor or clinic.

Yes, I’ll be keeping a beady eye out on this thread cad my renewal is this year and IF we can get over in July, I’ll be following the advice here on the procedure ( although do realise their maybe variations from office to office...TiT).

DLT info link (your browser should be able to translate to English) https://www.dlt.go.th/th/public-news/view.php?_did=2816

The medical form on the site which can be downloaded:
medical_certificate_2021.pdf
(213.06 KiB) Downloaded 204 times
I've no idea what we Farang would put in the National ID Card number blocks..

Top part is your health declaration, bottom part if for the Doctor to fill out..

^ The yellow book/pink ID card number format is the same as that for the Thai ID card but that doesn't appear anywhere on a Thai person's DL. I would leave it blank and let the clerk decide how a passport number or a foreigners ID would be used.

Thanks for that guys, mine is due in a few months.
I assume you can get it filled in by a GP rather than going to a Hospital??

any clinic with a licensed doctor should be fine. That's what was required for the initial license before.. Based on the translation of the document I'd say you'd be in and out of the clinic in minutes.. Now, for the on-line video where you can get a completion number back to your smart phone, has anyone done that yet?? If you do this prior to going out to Non Soong's Land Transport office you won't need to watch the video there. https://www.dlt-elearning.com/Home

I won't need a Thai DL in "nearly 6yrs away" though.

did the on-line "training" which consisted of a 3 question pre-quiz, then the mandatory 60 minute "training" video. Then a post question quiz. Don't know if the questions are changed but for mine the right answers were: 80% of the accidents in Thailand are caused by driving too fast; #2. How many driving "techniques" are there: 5 (outlined in detail in the video) and #3 How many seconds are there for reaction time: 5-8 seconds. Then at the end they asked me the same questions.

For ID Number I used my 13 digit Thai Pink ID card number. Don't know if you can put in a passport number.

First time I watched it the video froze at about 31:53 and I couldn't get it started again. When I backed out and went back into the app it took me to the video from the beginning...

Supposedy you get an SMS with your completion certificate. I haven't got it yet. I printed out the one presented at the end of the training...
