Anzac Day

Post by pal52 » April 25, 2021, 9:08 am

Just a reminder today is Anzac Day.
It is normally remembered with Ceremonies in Udon & Kanchanaburi but due to Covid can not be held.

Below is a story from the Express on a reminder of what Anzac day means.

Thanks for putting that up Pal. There are many ceremonies across Oz & NZ today except Perth (virus lockdown). I went to my local cenotaph and many people had placed wreaths before dawn. Hopefully a service in 2022 in Udon. Lest we forget.

A lot of brave souls gave their lives in both wars , from the commonwealth , or colonies as they were then .
Their sacrifice should never be forgotten .

The deaths of millions and millions of civilians at the hands of armed forces in war should never be forgotten.

On Anzac Day, here in Thailand, we remember Khun Boonpong Sirivejjabhandu, who helped countless Australian prisoners of war at camps near the Thai-Burma railway during the Second World War.

In recognition of his kindness, in 1998, the Australian government presented his grandson with a certificate of appreciation for the 'unrepayable debt' owed to his grandfather.

Just why did you feel it was necessary to post something like that on a day of remembrance for people who gave the ultimate sacrifice in an effort to prevent the Nations who carried out most of these atrocities against innocent civilians from taking over the world.

ANZAC Day 2022

On this day, in 1915, a group of volunteer Australian and New Zealand soldiers found themselves wading ashore before dawn at a small beach on the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey. Many of these men were only teenagers, some as young as 16, but all were anxious to prove their courage. Over the next eight months, these young ANZACs underwent a ‘trial by ordeal’. In total 36,000 Australian and New Zealand soldiers were killed or wounded at Gallipoli. But in those terrible battles, young Australians earnt a reputation for courage, self-reliance and mateship and the legend of ANZAC was born.

To all we say, thank you for your service.

Thank you Barney and others remembering the OZ & KIWI day we call ANZAC DAY. I attended our local War Memorial ceremony in a small rural town outside Sydney and was overwhelmed by a crowd of at least 500 men women and children in attendance.

It was significant the young children, 10-18 year olds, carried the service from start to finish citing memories, blessings and God's sayings. A few adults also spoke, but the children were outstanding. Lest we forget.
