Transfer Wise
Transfer Wise
Hi
Does anyone use 'Wise' or 'Transfer Wise' as it was called before, to transfer money to Thailand, and use it for yearly visa
renewals. Are there any issue with Immigration doing it this way I do understand they will want a years show of transfers.
TIA.
Nev.

Re: Transfer Wise
I use it on a monthly basis from my US bank to BBL. You have to indicate "For long term stay in Thailand" on the Wise menu, then the transfer will show up as a foreign transfer on your Savings Book. When you renew your extension of stay at IO ask the bank for a letter showing your monthly transfers for the past year.

Hi mak
Thats the info I wanted, Thanks very much mate.

Re: Transfer Wise
I use it all the time & it’s faultless.
I don’t use the income method for my extension but Mak is right, you must select “For long term stay in Thailand” as the reason for the transfer or the bank assigns some sort of in country transaction code which isn’t acceptable to immigration, they want to see the money has come from abroad

“For long term stay in Thailand” ?? You must mean Monthly Expenses.Niggly wrote: ↑June 24, 2021, 3:51 pmI use it all the time & it’s faultless.

Re: Transfer Wise
Nope, the reason is “For long term stay in Thailand” if you want to ensure you get the correct transaction code on the statement & you intend to use the monthly income method for the extensioncolt1911 wrote: ↑June 24, 2021, 6:22 pm“For long term stay in Thailand” ?? Re: Transfer Wise
The name has changed to Wise, but everything else remains the same. I just saw the post by Nev, never mind.

Re: Transfer Wise
It’s also important to note that BBL is the bank that you (probably) must transfer into. In the past it was the only bank that could show a TW transfer as international, all other banks showed a domestic transfer.
This may have changed with the ability to specifically state it’s for proof of income IDK.

Re: Transfer Wise
Nope. There is no reference to Thailand or other country in the menu. You need to select, reason...."Monthly Living Expenses".Niggly wrote: ↑June 24, 2021, 6:31 pmNope, the reason is “For long term stay in Thailand” if you want to ensure you get the correct transaction code on the statement & you intend to use the monthly income method for the extensioncolt1911 wrote: ↑June 24, 2021, 6:22 pm“For long term stay in Thailand” ?? Re: Transfer Wise
I stand corrected. I saw the reference to Thailand in the bottom of the menu.
Re: Transfer Wise
Yes, it’s the very last one in the drop down menu.
The reasons don’t seem to be listed in any logical or alphabetical order

Re: Transfer Wise
I've been using BahtSmart for the past 5 years or so and doing the monthly 65K thingy. They have registered offices in Sydney & Singapore, their Thai office is in Chiang Mai where the internal transfer is triggered from, 2 to 5 hours from the AUD transfer to their ANZ account in Sydney.
Fees and charges are about 1.5% of the official X-Rate quote at the time and fixed at the time of triggering the transaction.
Anyway, never had a problem with Imm over the apparent internal transfer to my KBank acct I just give them a printout of my BahtSmart "dashboard" and even they are intelligent enough to compare that with my bank statement and figure it out.

Re: Transfer Wise
I compared Wise to my US banks wire transfer. I continue to use wire transfers. I make one or two wire transfers a year. I never transfer less than $10,000 US dollars. Wise may be fine for smaller amounts but larger amounts are more expensive.

Re: Transfer Wise
Is anyone having problems with Wise? For the first time I am unable to send money. I don't have a cell/smart phone and Wise seems to want to send a code on my non-existent phone before completing the transaction. Thanks.

I guess you’re using a web page if you haven’t got a phone with the app?

Re: Transfer Wise
No problems, I’ve just transferred a years household spending money, zero problems and the transfer was faster than last time.Laan Yaa Mo wrote: ↑September 8, 2021, 2:07 amIs anyone having problems with Wise? However I have already got the receiving accounts setup. Talk to the support system on the website, they will have different options available. https://wise.com/help/

Woodworker has you on the right track with the Wise help desk. I had the same problem. Wise had me send them an email with a selfie and a picture of Passport showing your pic and signature. No more problem.

Re: Transfer Wise
Yes, I log into wise.com and go from there except now I get a red circle with a red line through the circle when I try to confirm the details and continue. It's all frustrating and angers the chihuahua on the other side waiting for his money.
