EVs Electric Vehicles are coming

Post by Doodoo » December 28, 2021, 5:33 pm

Of course the cost aint cheap

"Annually, presuming 12,000 miles driven, it would cost $1,030 to drive a gas car versus $1,554 for an EV."

I thought all this hoopla about renewables was about saving the planet. Nothing in the COP26 manifesto suggested one could save money at the same time.

the thing is the number miles being driven is falling fast, home deliveries, home working all cut it down. i bought a cheap honda city, had it two years and do 1500km a year, two or three times a year i fill it up. more and more i can order what i need on the internet at a lot less cost of going to buy it, and it gets delivered. time is money

I never suggested that you did say anything about saving money. I did.

The article summarizes thus: "Annually, presuming 12,000 miles driven, it would cost $1,030 to drive a gas car versus $1,554 for an EV."

In the above example, at the end of the year, the driver of the conventional, gas-burning car has $524 more dollars 'saved' than his EV- driving neighbor. Of course he could chose to spend it on something else but we should be able to agree that the push to renewables won't be cheap. I would go further and say it never will be.

In the end, people's budgets and lifestyle will determine how quickly the change will be embraced. Unless if course it's a filthy rich country like Norway where the government's incentives and subsidies have driven their EV market saturation to over 80%. The irony of this being the Norwegian government's largesse has been enabled by its skilfully managed oil and gas revenues.
