In a few days ISAN - Udon Thani - will celebrate the New Year. For this special occasion we are invited to join the parade, enjoy the floats, the marching bands, the dragon dances and taste a multitude of food. This is the most important day of the year for many many Isan people. Let's join our neighbours, friends for an evening of fun under a starry  sky in a safe environment for FREE... Where else could you get so much ?  Pics taken this morning at San Jiao Pu Ya shrine and Nong Bua  park

I would like to you well but as the UM moderators delay my posts for days, it would not get to you on time.

I thought the festivals this year were being cancelling due to Covid risks

OK.. and what day will this happen upon? What time will the parade start? What is the route? Seems we go round and round each year for each festival lacking details until they're over..

Next week is not a Thai/Isan new year celebration. It's a Chinese New Year celebration which is the second NY celebration in this country. Thai NY celebration (Songkran) comes in April. Granted many Thais are actually Thai - Chinese and this is their special day. Look around the city and you'll see lots of shops displaying red Chinese lanterns.

Jeez, that's right. This used to be a very important date in the Toronto social calendar second only to the Glorious 12th.

Where can you get smiling dragons like this ?
Where can you get costumes like this ?
Where can you get dancers, music, festival atmosphere like this ?
Stop searching. The ANSWER is UDON.
While in front of the shop where I had stopped to enjoy the show, 2-3 staff members came to wish me Happy Chinese New Year and just when I was about to leave, the parade had started moving out, a gentleman in his 50's approached me and thanked me for coming ...... Yes, this is UDON.
Many thanks to the UDON Chinese Community for putting up such a magnificent spectacle.
