One of my favorite staples is chicken or pork stew cooked in my pressure cooker. Another favorite is pork steak and mashed potatoes. The problem is that my wife is a price shopper. There are now no potatoes of carrots available here at the house. It appears that I'll have to supplement her food budget if I want to eat what I like.

Despite many saying food is increasing in price there is in my book , no alternative to GOOD FOOD , I would rather sup less and eat better, than some who sup more and eat rubbish .
The last time I went back to Blighty some years ago now, I was horrified at some opf the food prices in Restaurants and was told H and S and other reasons put the price up , they forgot to say also greed by the way.

So although prices are rising they are not yet exorbitant.

I'm sure that much of the inflation in this country is due to pure greed and vendors raising prices without justification to take advantage of all the hype in the news now. I saw in Big C the other day that the price of Hale's Blue Boy flavored syrup drink was over double the price it was just a year ago. I'm sure that all their ingredients are resourced locally, and there's no way that the cost of production has gone up that much.

My wife and I both took a watch to a sales shop the other day for a battery replacement. He wanted 100 Baht for the wife's watch and 180 for my watch using the very same battery. His reason for the extra 80 for mine was because my watch came from abroad. I blew my top and embarrassed the guy, and he let me have both for 200 baht. Greed is one of the main reasons that inflation is out of control.

It probably had nothing to do with where the watch was made, and everything to do with who was wearing the watch. Racism is given a pass in Asia. In a few months, they'll be denying life-saving (snicker) covid boosts to whitey. Even the Oracle. (hehe)

Crude oil now cost $83 - $86/ barrel. Thailand has to import 65% of its crude/day (842,209 barrels per day in 2016 - latest figures). The country consumes 1,302,000 barrels per day (2016 figures). The country produces the remaining oil itself. That's a lot of money at $83-$86 per barrel. Much of costs are their own making as they have relied on expensive truck transport to move the fuel/goods throughout the country since their antiquated train system is basically useless for this purpose.

Here's what I'll never understand: Why is fuel more expensive in Isaan than in Bangkok?

Thai logic is that transporting fuel many hundreds of km overland to points afar means fuel in the hinterlands is more expensive.

In the west, transporting fuel many miles from expensive city centers means fuel in the hinterlads is cheaper due to far cheaper, due to cheaper rent and payroll expenses (which are far more than the actual fuel).

Logic need not apply.

Howdy Mike
Have you ever heard of Thailand building pipelines to transport various fuels in the country? No need for underground pipelines

indeed , the dept of alternative energy has something to do with setting prices. so for yrs
gasohol products( made with molasses or sugar
cane or cassava plant) got special ฿ formulas

so the e-10 products(10% methanol) which were
even below 20฿/ litre now cost as much as unleaded. you gotta be a chemist to follow this.
i only know we have smoke in air half yr now🙄

Doesnt everyone?

When I was a whippersnapper early morning skinny dipping followed by naked breakfast may have been the thing, but most of the posh 'otels didn't go too much on it :-$

Our Yai has tended her cool season allotment for the past four years and despite getting a bit bigger each year, the yield this year is down considerably. This is the first year that pests have had a major impact on some of the selected, seasonal veggies. Just wonder if others that grow their own vegetables have seen the same? She's never had to faff with pesticides much. The other major difference is the city water irrigation this year. Last year we reactivated the well on our property but I wasn't home to rig it up again late last year so they went Isaan lazy and hooked up to the tap instead.
